What oil should I use

2009 Nissan Maxima
2. What your owner's manual says -- not just viscosity, but certifications (look for acronyms like API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.) and change intervals as well
5w30
3. Where you live
Atlanta
4. How you drive (easy? hard? fast? slow?)
Easy but every day have at least one or two times where I gun it
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?)
20 mi trip to work, mostly highway
6. Whether your car has any known problems
none

If you have any preferences -- synthetic vs. conventional, store-bought vs. ordered online, how long you'd like to go between oil changes, etc. -- or any other info you think might be important, let us know that as well.
Have been using Mobil 1 5w30 but am hearing that its not real synthetic anymore, should I switch to Amsoil and where is the best place to order it?

What your doing is just fine. Follow the owners manual on oil change intervals.

Mobil 1 5w30 is an excellant choice for up to 10-12K OCIs. Yes, all Mobil 1 oils are fully synthetic. Many of the oil sales folks would like those to believe what's wriiten on the internet about Mobil 1 oils. Afterall Mobil 1 is the largest selling full synthetic oil in the world, so taking pot shots at the king is, well, human nature. Mobil 1 oils will keep your engine very clean, and longer lasting than you'll ever keep your car.

+1 even though I'm a big fan of old Pennzoil Ultra and Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

I wouldn't hesitate to use Mobil 1 in any of my cars, it is number 1 selling for a reason, it is a perfectly capable oil which can last up to 10,000 as the bottle claims but do a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) to verify.

Don't believe anything you read on the internet without cross checking 5 ways to Sunday.
It is true that oils marketed in North America as "Fully Synthetic Oil" are NOT required to be what is considered to be "Synthetic". It is a marketing term ONLY. There exist no improved API grading for "Synthetic" passenger car oils. You must look to ACEA for long life approved lubricants from BMW, MB, VAG etc.

Is that all it says?

The interval and exact type is what you need to follow.

If you want to go a longer interval than do a used oil analysis.

If you want an oil recommendation, then presuming it meets spec, pick up, indeed make a stash of Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra that have very generous FRN rewards which will make them a $ a quart or less.

I'm an Amsoil fan so would approve of your switch(even though M1 is a good oil).
