PP has quieted down my RX330 V6 but it took 4 OCI's which to me is very strange but it is definitely quieter. Maxlife 5w30 blend runs very quiet as well.
What oil/oils have made your engine more quiet?

I have an oil cooled 911 now at 190K miles.
I started doing my own changes at 120K. GTX 20W50 at 3K OCI. It would sound better after an oil change . I did some short OCI's in the 1-2K range and did not notice any change. This noise change had me concerned that the oil was breaking down, it liked fresh oil.
Two years ago I started oil experiments. First Maxlife 20W50 , then SynPower 20W50 . Then a 50/50 mix of GTX and PP 15W50 .
Next 10W40 QS Q-Torque for 6K. This engine is rated to consume 1qt/600 miles and it does so. I expected consumption to increase due to lighter weight but it did 'not'. When I just changed it with Q-Torque again recently, no change in noise. I believe the Q-Torque has just made it sound 'mellow' and it stays that way.
My current conclusion is Porsche recommended 5W40 synth's my be dead on correct weight. I was originally fearful it would simply drip out of the exhaust pipe. Right now I have a stash of PP 15W50 and 5W30 which I blend to get 10W40. It will take me couple of years to work off since I plan 12K/annual changes (13qt capacity, but 10qt oil change & 1qt/600 miles). Actually I'm adding the 15W50 PP to 10W40 QS during the summer and then 5W30 in fall/winter to take the blend back to 10W40. With consumption this high average oil age will stay
I would like to try Val. SynPower 5W40 . I'll check back in a few years to report.

redline 10w40 is quieter than SSO in my 2.4L Turbo. Motor was more sluggish though

Motor honey and slick 50 do wonders....just kidding!! SSO and ASL have both quieted several engines I've worked on down. The 5.3 L truck engine that we put SSO in idles so quiet now (after 5k miles of SSO) that the injector noise and induction system is the most prominent sound with the hood open. That engine had some prominent piston slap on start-up prior to the SSO conversion (previous fill was dino castrol 10W30). We once gave a long abused 4.3 V6 with a dirty lifter the fill from the yellow bottle and it got pretty quiet too. What we need is someone with vibration analysis equipment to take one for the BITOGers!

Can't find RL density anywhere.
GC 0W-30 D=839
Castrol Edge 5W-30 D=850
No real relation between grade & density.
At 100C the density is probably different though.

Whoa daddy, it's high! Probably because it lacks polymeric VIIs.

Super high!

It's got some polymers, but it's base oil mix is still relatively viscous which seems to correlate with higher density if all else is constant.

Changing grades made the difference, 10w30 to a 10w40, only noticable with my stroker though, never noticed anything with the other vehicles.

For me the specifications of both RL and RLI are very similar. The RLI is however more fluid at room temperature and this is important for me. I feel more comfortable stepping on the gas if the oil is not so thick during the early start up period, the first 10 or 15 minutes.

I've only run two different oils in my Corvette, PP and GC, and without a doubt the engine was quieter when running GC. I definitely hear the valvetrain more with PP than I did with GC, it's most noticeable when I am driving through the parking garage at my work, I can hear the ticking echo off the walls. I barely heard it before when I ran GC. I'm not worried though, the LS1 typically does have a noisy valvetrain.
