35 year veteran sprint car driver here. 20 years ago (more or less) I had been using Castrol GTX 20w-50..had an oil sponsor that gave us a drum a season and had been for 10+ years. No issues. When the oil companies were forced to change the oils (less ZDDP etc) I started to notice extreme wear on the cam lobes (solid roller cam with 230 lb seat pressure) At that point I researched the issues with "current" oils and decided to make the switch to Amsoil Dominator 15w-50. It is designed for use with methanol and really "fits" what we are doing with these engines. I would run the oil 2 weeks with a filter change (Baldwin B279) after every night. That following off-season when pulling the engine down the wear was GONE. I was able to run that cam 3 seasons with that oil.
Most teams will have their favorite..EG: Gibbs, Brad Penn, Schaffer's, etc. and they are all probably getting the job done but after me personally witnessing my engine internals I am a believer!
