These are used in Iraq. What is it? Seems shorter than a Humvee.

Those were made to better resist mines and IEDs than Humvees. Much sturdier with heavy bottom armor. Next best thing to rolling around in an armored personnel carrier for protection.

Oshkosh M-ATV. They have been around for 15 years. 12 tons. Baby MRAP.

I had to look that up. I can't believe it's already been 15 years since they were released; it feels like it was just a year or two ago I was hearing about them.

I believe the Army was looking into acquiring Dingo 2 ATFs which were based on Unimogs and made by KMW before turning to Oshkosh. The Dingo 2 would have been roughly the same size in the short version but lighter than the M-ATV.

It's their compact shape that makes them appeear small in pictures without scale reference. They are rather massive vehicles. At 25 tons fully loaded, the Buffalo by General Dynamics is a very large MRAP. A BAE Systems Caiman MRAP was often seen on Fear the Walking Dead.

The JLTV aka L-ATV is the replacement for the M-ATV. I like alphabet soup.

But the important thing we need to know is what kind of oil does the Army use in it, and should they upgrade to something better? Something thinner? Something thicker?
We already have a locked thread regarding this topic.😅

I would be interested to know the oil specs. Surely not 0-20
