What makes some engines "hard" on oil?

Toyota does NOT keep telling people to go 7,500 miles.

They STATE ALL toyotas can go a MAX of 5,000 miles or 6 months. This is for ALL models.

Some of the "sludge monsters" were Lease cars that came off close to 36,000 miles with the ORGINAL factory oil filter still on...

I bet someone using Mobil 1 and chanbging their oil every 5000miles would have no problems, but soemone going 5-6000K with normal oil will.

But I don't, and don't plan on, owning a toyota anytime soon.
