What makes BITOG great

Serious thread here for a minute. I was thinking, do you know what really makes the internet great? And BITOG in general? Variety. You have so many different kinds of people on here. So many different points of view, and opinions. All kinds of insight and different experiences. BITOG seems to have this more than anything. As an example, we have welders, electrical technicians, we have sports fans, we have athletes, we have office workers, we have hardcore geeks, such as myself. That is what makes this site great. Just my opinion though

I have long believed that. The automotive engineer AND the Joe Six-Pack/shadetree mechanic guy both have things to offer. I WANT to hear different perspectives on topics.

No he isn't. From what I have seen and read he is questioning the methodology of some posters. That's all. He is basically saying a few uoa doesn't amount to much,and not to read too much into them. I for one am glad he is here,it keeps everyone honest.

It's an online forum where ideas and info are shared. Not real life. Get over it.

I am very happy I found this site. There is so much good info here and I love learning about not just automotive topics, but life in general. A few may grumble at each other but it does not seem to be very often or at at extreme level. Plus I really feel there are some genuine helpful people here that make it enjoyable.

Well, what I love about BITOG and what makes it great are folks like FCDG27, Clevy, SS1970Chrysler and his threads that I enjoy reading. Heck, how many other people drive older cars and enjoy them?? I enjoy reading on here and learning a lot and seeing how much oil has changed for the better.

And this is a great site. We have engineers,scientists,amazing mechanics,carpenters and hosts of others,from all walks of life. Yes,it can get heated sometimes but that proves passion,which the world seems to be lacking lately.
I used to hang out in a few mustang sites and a Harley site and they are alright. The Harley site tends to lean republican so lately it has been nothing but whining and the mustang sites tend to be kids who think a cai makes huge power so I am glad this site exists. Helps me get away,and there is a wealth of knowledge here,not just hearsay and opinion.
So yes we can get heated but come on,we are human after the screen name.

My favorite aspect of BITOG is, ironically, the variety of NON oil-related forums we have on here in addition to the technical oil forums. We all share a common bond (interest and passion for cars), and it's great to be able to talk about all sorts of things with other "car guys". Whether we like Fords or Chevys, Hondas or Toyotas, Bimmers or Benzes, we're all playing the same game. In general, the level of respect and discourse here far exceeds that at other forums.

For the first time in a long time, BITOG is the only forum on which I regularly participate. It has a perfect combination of oil/car related stuff, with enough other discussion thrown in for variety.

One other thing I liked, was when Artem did a "experiment" with M1 using it in his one vehicle, then draining it into a clean drain pan and did used oil analysis on this. I learned a lot bout filters and got some valuable info in general from Artem. That takes a brave and smart individual to do that, so thank you Artem for doing that and sharing the results.

Working peer review. Enough of the time when someone is challenged a link is found that defends that point of view.

Similarly I expect if I stick something up that's not first hand experience, if I can't back it up, someone might poke holes in my theory, which I'd find embarrassing.

So I keep my yap shut unless I'm pretty sure. Most of the time.

Dnewton3 is a very knowledgeable in many areas and all he is doing is trying to get people to think and research rather than believe old wives tales. Dave has been to Blackstone Labs and visited with Ryan several times concerning oils and oil analysis. Dave wants the site to grow and provide correct information.

Our moderators have one goal concerning the website and that is to have a website that provides a place to read and research various subjects. The members and the moderators insist on factual information and respect for all members. We are very fortunate to have the moderators we do because they have the same goal for BITOG as I do.

I've almost always found your posts to be positive contributions, and I've never seen you belittle another member.
When we're wrong, we just need to suck it up and admit to it.

Lots of very experienced mechanics on this forum that are willing to give very detailed and sometimes little known information about various car specific models...

I really think BITOG is great is from reading the topic about members get together, I and all of us get to put a face to a name. That I like. I am still concerned for anyone that is in the NJ/NY or coastline areas. God bless you guys and thank you for what you do here and in life and in your work.
