What Is Your Opinion On The Quality Of Hyundai ?

I went to a used 2008 Kia Spectra (copy of Hyundai Elantra) from a 2005 Tacoma. I have to say that build quality and fit/finish on Kia is better than Tacoma's.

My Kia was to the dealer once, to have BCM reprogrammed. Tacoma had a myriad of problems: a collapsed tailgate, under-rated springs, leaking shocks, exhaust tick, rusted frame, and the list goes on.

My neighbor (well, his wife) drives an 08 Santa Fe and they love it. No problems with it whatsoever.

I love having free access to Kia's FSM online directly from Kia. Hyundai has the same access.

I will be buying a Hyundai Elantra Touring in a year or so, that's how much I like Hyundai's quality.

Everyone has their own experiences. There is no Brand X is better than Brand Y because no two cars, no two experiences are the same. One person's idea of a rattle is different than anothers. Tolerances are different etc, expectations.

Be happy there is choice, and be happy you made yours(everyone).

I like what I know of Hyundai. I know I rented a new body style Elantra to drive almost 2000k in, and it was great, every mile of the trip. Good on gas, decent power, reasonable comfort.

Not a bad car at all.

My only critique... It looks strange. The Civic sedan is far better looking.

I spent a week in a base rental Kia Optima with the 4 cylinder motor. This is the same car as a Hyundai Sonata.

I was very happy with the car. One with a few more options would have been even better.

This was a dollar rental car with about 40k HARD miles on it. No squeaks, rattles, or anything.

I would buy one in two minutes. You can get a 08-09 for under 10k all day long.

An acquaintance who is a CEO of a very large organization drives a Hyundai Genesis. When I saw the car first I was like 'wow, nice car'. Then I saw that it was a Hyundai.

It's amazing how Hyundai has become mainstream. Talk about having high goals and actually reaching them.

If Hyundai continues to improve at the rate they've been doing it will be the best car on the road in a few more years.

But it is so boring, and completely lacking in the driving experience. Lots of people want complete isolation from the surroundings so bravo for them.

And their sports car is wayyyy down the ladder.

But they're learning fast!

I purchased my 07 Elantra new, 72K miles later, not ONE issue. Very under rated car!

I think maintenance is key on Hyundai's. I have followed the severe maintenance schedule to the "T" and the car still drives like new. Also, there won't be any questions if I do have to use the warranty.

I do all my own maintenance besides the trans service ( it does have a drain plug however) and timing belt. Both dealer service and parts are very reasonable. My timing belt was $400 and trans services are $140, OEM oil filters $5 and air filters are $14...

Over all I am VERY pleased, when I retire this one I will absolutely look at another Hyundai.

My one last point is the awesome quality of the paint. I know it sounds weird but, this is the first black car of the 4 I have owned that has held up. No swirl marks, scratches etc like the others I have owned after a few years. Wax it a few times a year and it still looks brand new.

I am a Hyundai owner (well it's my wife's car that I've driven plenty) so I'll write from first hand experience.

This was a 2009 Sonata GLS purchased new.

It has a generous squeak (windshield) and clunk (front suspension) that appeared shortly after the purchase.

The automatic transmission is a car-aware driver's nightmare, including a dreadful 2-3 upshift flare that occurs 10-20% of the time.

The interior quality is average, but the cabin space and layout is great. Unfortunately the new model (2011) looks smaller, but I haven't been inside one to check.

It is an incredibly mushy vehicle in terms of suspension and engine mount slop.

Overall, I'd rate it about average.

South Korea has become the new superpower when it comes to engineering and assembly. I think Hyundai and Kia are easily beating Toyota at its own game. The Japanese manufacturers have gotten fat and lazy and are selling products based on their previous reputations. Japanese quality has slipped greatly in the last couple decades. Hyundai is doing a better job building cars than Toyota, just as Samsung is beating Sony in the TV market. Not to mention Samsung and LG are totally dominating the American major appliance market.
