How about this:

What Synthetic 5W30 SM/GF4 would you be least likely to use (price not considered)?

For me it would be a Warren Unilube (Not the same as WPP that makes Supertech) made product like Coastal Full Synthetic.

PS Thats likely unjustified but there it is.

I'd say the worst oil is the obsolete SA or SB rated junk at convenience stores, followed closely by any non-detergent oil.

Beyond that, the worst oil is the oil you DON'T change regularly...but I guess thats why we're all here.

i saw some cumberland farms oil that is outdated 22 years as far as api grade is concerned and yet unknowing customers would put it in their newer cars...i think it meets SF specs...pqia called this oil out on their website

bobfather dont knock used up oil, my bil has gone 297k on his camry and has changed oil maybe 10 times...we checked 11 days ago and he was low 2 quarts and he waited another 600 miles before adding oil

I don't believe autozone sells anything less than SL rated oils under any brand name, except for the clearly marked non-detergent straight weight oil for use in special applications.

Personally, I believe that any oil not rated at least an SJ should have a warning on the label saying that the oil, "is not suitable for modern automobile applications." Just like cigarettes do...

I personally dont use ST from WM just because i have seen it sheer out of grade on so many UOAs. I have not looked lately so they may be just fine. Its just the cost difference. If ST was 5 dollars then i would buy it. but QSGB is .50 dollars more and i feel much more comfortable with that.

Well, there was this oil I drained out of the old John Deere "M" that we used to use down in the forty in the river bottoms. Had to get it out by droppin' the pan & using a hammer & cold chisel. Dissolved in some kerosene, it was murder on them red ant hills....

.....that, or we can just accept that there is no "worst" oil, just as there is no "best" oil.

This is an untrue statement. Amsoil has a few different oils that are not API approved, but test results show they far exceed API standards. The lack of "approval" is not a tell tale sign of a poor motor oil.
