What is the silliest reason you got a ticket for?

140 mph in 86 Nissan Sentra.

Not hard to fight by mail because car top speed was 105 mph with an attached letter from Nissan, car and driver article and pic of stock engine and owner was girlfriend so registration.

Just a tool cop who thought he’d write an $$$$ ticket for out of state.

that is ridiculous, I have personally never seen a cop care about this, and I have seen cars facing each other to jump-start many times...where did this happen? I would like to avoid such a POS place.
Somewhere about here lol. Closest town would be Barstow,Ca.

BTW there was a dirt berm In the sides of the road so parking on the side of the road was not possible

Didn't get a ticket for 13 over as the wife easily showed that she was in labor. Was told to take it a bit easier for the rest of the way. I don't think he was in his cruiser before I was back on the road. Good thing I had slowed down before he clocked me, I may have been a multiple or two that a mile before...

Chris, no chance you or your dad were mouthing off to the cop, or otherwise being jerks? Getting a ticket on an abandoned road for a jump just seems beyond petty. I could see it if you were on a highway--I occasionally see that on an interstate and for that it may well be a deserved ticket (since to get turned around involves risk to everyone else... potentially).

Parking ticket at college. During high school, I'd been on the campus many times to use the library and knew that there were permitted and visitor areas, and always parked in the visitor area. Time came to take a campus tour, and as part of the packet of information they sent was an instruction sheet that specifically said to use the parking lot next to the phys ed building since that's where the tour started. What they omitted was that I should have used the *visitor* lot that was after the lot which was next to the building, and was obscured by a row of hedges that hid the tiny little sign stating that was visitor parking. Ticket was only $10 so I paid it, enclosing the instruction sheet they sent and pointing out that they didn't really make it clear that there was a visitor lot out back, behind the bushes, that should have been used.

The campus PD returned the check with an explanation that they were dismissing the ticket as they don't ticket visitors. Um...ok. But I did notice that when I started attending, the was a sign at the entrance to the lot indicating that visitor parking was behind the building, and the sign that was obscured had a growth spurt and was now very visible when driving towards the back of the main lot.

Parking ticket for parking across a sidewalk. Problem was, the area where I was parked had no sidewalks. Took pictures and an aerial to a hearing and was quickly out of there.

I was written up for speeding at night in a 30 mph speed limit area and I wasn't even speeding. A buddy of mine had a Corvette club party on his acreage and there were about 36 corvette's there. I think the small town cop was just itching to write somebody up and he started out saying I gunned it around a corner. My wife and I didn't even have a drink and I thought he would get us for an alcohol violation. I was 100% guilty of doing nothing wrong and should have fought it in court.. My wife and I still laughed about him saying I gunned it around a corner. The officer was a total jerk but the good thing about it was it was unreported on my driving record. Don't get me wrong most officers are super nice and I totally thank them for their service as a public servant.

I was pulled over for not using my turn signal to enter the highway.
Given a ticket for my name not being on the proof of insurance I showed them.
My name was on the bottom with the list of drivers 🤷‍♂️
The judge dismissed it when I went to court , I physically showed it to him and rolled his eyes and sent me off.

Got a ticket for going the speed limit in town...because it was raining and "too fast for conditions"
Got a ticket for have a frame on my license plate that partially obstructed my county on my plate
Got a ticket for not having a front plate - even though I was from a state that didn't require them
Got a ticket for parking under a tree in my front yard to get some shade so I could wax my black car
Got a ticket for 3 over on my motorcycle
Got a ticket for excessive acceleration pulling away from a stop sign in the rain when my wheel spun on the paint
Got a ticket for rolling through a stop sign at 4am at the top of a hill (could see for miles) on the way to the gym
Got two different tint tickets

My favorite though...we had a short driveway, and three cars (mom, dad, me).
-got a ticket for parking in the street during snow...
-so next snow I parked at the end of the driveway and got a ticket for blocking the sidewalk...
-so next snow I parked in the grass between the sidewalk and the street (called the parking), and got a third ticket

Expired sticker when parked at the train station for work. Except I had valid and current registration, the sticker fell off. Would have needed to take a day off too go to court for a $25 ticket so I ended up paying instead.

Not a ticket, but I failed inspection for having a cracked after market fog light. I argued with the worker that fog lights are not a requirement so having a cracked one should not result in a failed inspection. His reply was, if it's on the car, it has to work. My remedy was to place the fog light covers over the fog lights. I returned to the inspection station a couple days later for reinspection with the covers in place. Another worker argued with me that I can't fail inspection for a cracked fog light because there is no requirement to have fog lights. Eventually, after some discussion, they passed me and I received my passing inspection sticker.
I went to a NJ inspection station when I lived there 20 years ago. There was a small crack in my passenger side mirror housing, I put some black duck tape on it to keep water out. When the inspector saw the tape, he tried to wiggle the mirror. It didn't wiggle. So he yanked on it harder and harder until it broke and was hanging from the door, then failed me for that. That's one of the many reasons why I moved back to NY pretty quickly.

When I was about 18 or 19, I got a bunch of tickets-by-mail from the city of Chicago, for various parking infractions. Parking in a tow zone, parking in a loading zone, parking by a fire hydrant, etc, etc. However, I'd not been to Chicago on any of the dates shown on the tickets (and especially not at those times, such as 2AM on a Tuesday, etc). The car was registered to my parents, so of course they didn't believe me that the tickets were somehow in error. The city got increasingly threatening towards us if we didn't pay the fines ASAP! Finally we convinced them to send us actual Xerox copies of the tickets and it was at that point we discovered they were issued to a car with the same license number - but with Maryland plates. We sent the city a very snarky and condescending letter and never heard from them again.

One of my very, very, few tickets in my lifetime occurred while I didnt even know I was speeding. At the age of 18 and drag racing up and down Hempstead Turnpike every night in my 67 GTO ... (gosh those were good times!)

I end up getting a ticket driving slowly on a two lane road at 43 MPH to my girlfriend's house one night. Turned out the speed limit was 35. I got it reduced by going to court and before court session spoke to a DA plead guilty to tailgating which was less points to no points I cant remember.

When I was 17 I was trying to impress my GF so I ran a red light while we were smoking weed and speeding. Stupid, yes, of course. This was a long time ago.

Anyway a cop saw the whole thing so pulled me over. IDK why but he was really nice and said, you broke multiple laws here so I gotta ticket you for something. I had just moved and didnt update my address on my license. So he ticketed me for failure to keep license accurate or something. A $16 fine. I thought Id be losing my license at the time.

I havent had a ticket since then.
