I just got my LC and FP. Opened the top and wow, did it smell!

Just curious as to what the smell is... almost is like the solvent used in a sharpie marker.

Thanks,

JMH

Solvent?

Of course it's going to smell strong...it's nothing more than a mix of solvents. Could probably make your own with ingredients from a paint store, if you knew the recipe...

LC has a definite oily feel. Also, in 1300 miles, none of the 5 oz I added with my last oil change has evaporated off. Doesn't act like a solvent.

LC might not be a solvent, but FP definately is.

solvent, maybe but Im not so sure.

I wrote 'FP' on the fuel power bottle in permanent marker after filling it up. In my excitement to put the stuff into the distributing bottle that came with it, I forgot to shake the FP bottle, as per the instructions written on it.

I later poured the fp back into the bottle so I could shake it all up. Some dribbled down the side, onto the 'FP' that I had written in sharpie marker. I rubbed on it with my finger, and later rubbed it with a paper towel to clean up the drip on the outside of the bottle. Nothing cleaned up the sharpie marker.

This to me was odd, because most simple solvents like acetone and alcohols remove sharpie marker; it is just not water soluble. SO I have to wonder what kind if any solvent is in it.

On another note, after shaking it well, I poured it. I was outside in the dark, with just a close but indirect incandescent light bulb providing light. I could see what I believe to be microdroplets of oil, noted due to the rainbow like sheen, on the surface of the fp being poured into the dispensing bottle. So, I have to wonder if the FP has lubricating qualities in and of itself, or if it has to be the carrier for a small amount of lubricating oil.

Just a minor correction: FP and LC are more than just a mix of solvents.

And no, you couldn't obtain the ingredients at the paint store.
