I've used this stuff over the years, but hadnt read the details on the back label in a long time.

It says it contains zinc (obviously), but also says "olefin copolymers" which I dont think I noticed before. WTH is that stuff?

So what all is STP Blue Bottle made of these days? I dont see a somewhat recent VOA on the stuff anywhere.

It is basically just a bottle of nothing but plastic Viscosity Index Improvers (VII) with zinc in it.

nowadays it is best to stay away from all "additives" modern oils are just too good already - any "improvements" just makes them worse. the best thing to do for an engine is to provide it with
regular oil changes. if u live in an area where cars rust, be sure
to take it annually for a proper oil spray. buy the chilton's manual, and be sure to follow all of the directions. None of the car makers want u to put anything in ur engine except for the proper oil. with proper care, the engine will easily go 200,000 - 500,000 miles.

Not really interested in that type of discussion.

Just interested in the chemical composition an properties, et all...

VII's are a polymer, so they are a form of 'liquid plastic' that shink when cold, and expand when hot. That's about as far as my chemical understanding of it goes.

The STP will give a boost to the antiwear additives, but will also thicken the oil considerably. It's better to go with an additive that is not so thick. Redline has an excellent additive that only needs a ounce per every two quarts of oil to give a substantial boost in antiwear and it won't thicken the oil.

I believe MolaKule refers to it as "brightstock".

I was thinking of greasing my door hinges with it.
