Buster, I've seen 4 versions of Motul in the engine, including 300V. Every one performed terribly.
what is good VW 502 approved OIL??

The 502 spec is not that rigorous. And that's all the 2.5 engine requires.
We've got a 2 year old 2.5 Jetta, and it runs just as well on Schaeffers 7000 as it does on GC. It's a noisy engine no matter what you run in it. I'll take the Volvo I-5 over it. But the VW has good torque down low.
Don't confuse the 2.5 with the old 1.8 turbos or the TDIs. The 2.5 isn't that hard on oil and has a big 6.3 qt sump.
The demand for synthetics, through more rigorous specs, is to meet 10k OCIs in the other engines. Don't let it spook you on a mild-mannered 2.5.
Hint: if you're that fixated on running a synthetic, then run Rotella 5w-40 at $16/gallon, which is what a lot of VW techs do.

That is a great oil. I ran that on my old ALH TDI engine. Of course someone will pop out and say Shella Rotella T-synthetic is not 502.00 approved.
Amsoil? I'm not really a fan of the reformulated AFL (to meet 505.01 properties). However, they do have DEO (which is still a 5w40), which I would use instead.

Those oils seem to give hit or miss results from what I've seen in used oil analysis. Have you done any used oil analysis with them or have any kind of feedback to give on them in your engine or anyone else's?

I haven't done it yet-- my car is still too new (imo, with less than 20,000 miles). After my 20,000 oil change I will be starting to do analysis.
Using Total Quartz Ineo 504/507 with OEM Mann filter.
