Anybody know? New Lexus ES350 so I'm going to drop the factory fill 5w30 at 1000 miles but not the filter. So I need 6 qts of dino 5w30 to get me to the first 5000 free dealer service. I'm guessing it is mobil 5000 in there. Does anyone know for sure? I'll convert to PP at 10k.

Not exactly sure, but heard it is a standard conventional oil. On my Corolla I changed out FF at 1200 miles, switched to dino, then went to PP 5w30 at 3000 miles. Running great and no oil usage at all. Oh, car is an 07' Corolla LE with the 1.8L.

Its made in Japan but I think they use Mobil Clean for factory fill.

Why do you think you need to drop the factory fill before 5k miles? There will be plenty of oil changes in this vehicles life. No need to practice for no reason.

Wear metals.

not sure what was in my '08 corolla but i dumped it at 3oo miles and put in pennzoil dino cause i wanted to

What wear metals? Got particle count numbers? Any evedence that this practice is beneficial? Any reason not to trust the oil pump intake screen and oil filter to remove abrasive sized particles? Any thought that if the engine is shedding large visible particles it probably is toast?
UOA's may indeed indicate higher wear numbers in factory oil change but this wear is occuring during breakin regardless of when the oil is changed. High wear metal numbers do not mean the high wear particles are casuing damage.. it means that wear is occuring, which is expected in a brand new or rebuilt engine.
The only benefit to changing the oil early is to be able to have better uoa reports sooner. This is an action of dilution(spreading the wear over more oil changes) rather than actual wear reduction.
Now I am not saying it is bad to feel better personaly, and if that is what curbs some ancient new equipment anxiety in people they can do it. I have rituals too.
From a quantatative viewpoint I have never seen any evedence that this is beneficial.

so everyone must be wrong then about changing oil out early to get "wear metals" out.

and to think all those years of people doing it to get the break in metals out in reality they been wasting good oil

Yes, and did 3k mile oilchanges or less in the day too. With todays engines it is a waste good oil, disposal energy resources, money and time.
Back when automotive technology was relegated to flathead engines and non-detergent oil this practice of break in oil changes probably made alot of sense. You actually will sometimes observe this recomendation from the manufacterer continue today with small flathead engines such as lawnmowers. Compare that engines technology to the current automotive engines.

If it made in Japan it is useing Enos or Idemitsu oil. They do not use Mobil as factory fill in Japan. Now stateside they use a lot of Mobil for factory fill.

I would look at Havoline,Chevron Supreme,or TropArtic as your next fill. All of them will do a fine job.

Not to thread hijack but I always change out my factory fill before it hits 1000 miles not because of wear metals but because I just dont know how long the car's been sitting around the lot and what the condition of the oil is. Dealers are notorious of shuffling cars on the parking lot so I dont know if there is condensation or fuel dilution that is killing/killed the oil slowly. Yeah it my paranoia, I guess.

I called ToMoCo and was told that the factory fill IN Japan is Mobil. They wouldnt tell me or they didnt know if it was Mobil Clean or not. I cant vouch for the accuracy of those operators so take it for whats its worth.

What number did you call? I would like to ask them some questiones as well. My best friend speaks and reads Japaneese so I will let her translate for me.

Not only that but here in Michigan everyonestarts them and lets them idle for hours at a time to get the ice off of them and to thaw everything out. You cannot shuffle them if you can not see out the windows and use the mirors some lots are tight! You get busy with a customer and guess what the car or truck gets forgotten about and is left running for hours at a time. I saw this happen at a bunch of dealerships here in Michigan.

Welllll, Esso (ExxonMobil) has a relationship with Toyota in Formula 1, so they may be using something from them. Tonen General is also a major chain in Japan of gasoline and oil and part of E-M.

Toyota and E-M have been working on joint research for years.

So it could be possible.

My parents just bought a "used" 2007 Corolla with 9500 miles. Had first change at 2974. Second at 6085. Third at 9186.(All 3 at the Stealership). So, about every 3100 miles.I asked the service manager if they changed the oil filter every time, and he said,"Yes".I then asked what oil they have in bulk for customer oil changes, and his reply,"Mobil Clean 5000 5w30".My $.02

P.S. I'll be doing 5000 mile changes with TropArtic 5w30 blend while under warranty. And, continue with dino,as it will will be used mostly for short trips of less than 5 miles. IMO Full Synthetic oil would be a waste of money for this application. I'll be fine with any OTC dino. Bill in Utah, Do you agree?

I bought a new Avalon in Jan. 08. Put 1,200 miles on it and changed the oil and filter. Took the OEM filter a part (canister type). It had small metal shaving trapped in the filter pleats. About the size of what you would find in a electric razor or maybe a little larger.

So I would say get the factory fill out of the Toyota soon no matter what it is. Avalon owners manual says to do the first change at 5,000 miles. I just do not think that is a good ideal on a new car.
