What is CI+4 spec

have some rotella synthetic that has a CI+4 rating. I know the oils now have a CJ 4 rating. Is there much difference and am I ok running the CI+4 in a 05 F-250 6.0 powerstroke?

CI+4 will work very well in your 05 F-250.

The main difference between CI+4 and CJ4 is the level of zinc and phos. The CJ4 spec is for 2007 and later diesels.

The new CJ4 spec is also backward compatible so you can also use it in your 05.

thanks!! good to hear b.c I stocked up last year. Sams club had it on Clearance for synthetic 5w-40 for about $6 a gallon

WHAT? $6/gallon?

jdw1222 - run, don't walk, back to Sam's and get every bottle you can for $6/gallon! It is an excellet product, and sold for about 3x that at the regular shelf prices.

Most every synthetic 5w40 runs around $26-35 a gallon, though in some Walmarts you can still find Shell Rotella T for around $22.

I was able to pick up some 5-gallon pails of Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 for $55 each, and to pick them up locally, so it cost me $11/gallon. But that was an unusually good deal, and even then the stuff was CH-4 rated so probably 5 or more years since it left the plant. I ended up selling it for basically what it cost me to a few friends who had more use for it than I did.

At one point I had the 25 gallons of Mobil Delvac 5w40 plus another 30 quarts or so of other synthetic diesel engine oil... all for one car that only needs about 4.5 quarts every 10k miles!
