In the Good old days Bob used to do some 'Tests'
O.K. some were pretty Hokey, but they raised some interesting issues none the less.
How about this as a 'What if'
We take several identical items (such as Rocker Arms) from a single sludged engine, we mount these items on a shaft and immerse each item in a pot of oil, or oil plus a cleaning additive. The pots are arranged on a hot plate, or on a plate in a BBQ, to heat the oil to an approximation of engine temperature. A gear head motor would rotate the sludged items in the heated oil for a set period of time, Then the items are removed and compared to asses the cleaning ability of each Additive??

Me too. He did a cool flush back in the day with neutra and ATF in the oil. Made the rockers on his car squeaky clean in like 400 miles.

Sounds cool. The only problem I see is since the test doesn't really represent what "exactly" goes on in an engine I can see the excuses for why it might work with some products and not others. LOL probably another thread that gets locked, the way things have been going here lately.

I do like the idea of real world testing though. Reading company tests and testimony put up on websites selling products gets old real fast. Bob had some great ideas!

I did like a lot of the testing that Bob did. He probably saved me some money. I remember him testing Lucas oil supplement and I decided not to use any of that stuff based on what he found out.

Bob did come up with some interesting testing ideas and he was then willing to do ahead and set up some testing equipment.

I miss Bob a lot.

bob did elaborate tests with various products. He set up some test equipment to check out Lucas oil supplement. And he did testing on wear comparisons with various motor oils. He also tested Neutra for engine cleaning in some vehicle engines.

This is just a few examples of what I remember.

In Bob's testing the Lucas oil supplement foamed really badly. Other products outperformed the Lucas stuff.
