So, I've used Valvoline for years and years with no complaints. I certainly respect Pennzoil, M1, Castrol, and the rest. Very nice products, IMO. Lately I've been looking over the web pages and product offerings for the other motor oil companies... and I can help but notice that Valvoline's product line doesn't change much. Even their ads are kinda lackluster, "100 years under the hood." They might add a synthetic blend of something, but nothing like the new Pennzoil offerings. Mobil has been busy lately and come out with a ton of new oils over the last few years, and now they are jumping into the extended drain market. Quaker State came out with different formulations for horsepower, torque, whatever else. Valvoline came out with the first high mileage engine oil, MaxLife, more than 10 years ago. Kudos to them. Everyone followed them into that market within a few years. But since then, I really have not heard much from them. What has Valvoline been up to lately?

I was just thinking that. The HyperZDP presentation posted above sure looks impressive. The presentation is focused on emissions, naturally, and maintaining catalyst efficiency, which is the name of the game when it comes to ZDP. Cats may stay cleaner, however, the engine deposit tests for the HyperZDP additive actually looked dirtier.

The Synpower is very low cost synthetic, specially with rebate(s) I could get more than 30 quarts for less than $1/qt over the last 2-3 years. I'm not complaining about they don't have newer products to compete with the big dogs, as long as I can get Synpower for $1/qt.

I know their SynPower makes some mighty nice UOA reports here. Good stuff.

They have a very simple, solid, and straight forward product line. Though they tend not to garner a lot of posts on BITOG, I think they have a pretty loyal following here and elsewhere. No question their products are good, and you can't go wrong choosing any of them. Bit of a sleeper oil these days.

If you look at the history of the development of non conventional oils, Valvoline was one of the first to offer a syn.blend. I used Durablend in my Mazda as early as 1995 IIRC. Others followed with blends. I don't know why Valvoline doesn't get more shelf space. It may be that they don't offer discounts to retailers, and that's what it's about today. FWIW--Oldtommy
MaxLife 5w30 seems to make my old Grand Marquis engine run smoother and the oil stays noticeably cleaner for longer. Plus, I'm not having to add as much top up oil between changes. Makes me want to try some of their other products.

Synpower is not a low cost synthetic. they cost more than most synthetics on the shelf.
I use Valvoline in all my vehicles. Excellent products regardless of rebates or not

turns out Lubrizol is based very near where i live, who knew. im feeling some valvoline for the next oil change
Valvoline's Synpower and Maxlife Full synthetic are top-shelf. They don't do alot of fluff marketing like Mobil but the product is there in spades.
