What happened to the types of topics on BITOG?

When I found out about BITOG it was about fluids, vehicles of any kind , and things of that nature. Now it seems to be everything but that . Now I am sympathising with folks problems as we all have them but not on this forum . What’s going on here? Who started this?
You’re more than welcome to discuss those topics, and will get a healthy response.

Many topics have become beating a dead horse. For those, use the search!

Once folks beat the dead horse enough, they look to branch out. Fortunately bitog has clean, smart, well moderated (if I do say so myself) subforums, where a lot of different info can be exchanged.

So what you're saying is we need new horses?

But really, this place is my favorite forum to go to even though we don't have t-shirts like other ones I am on.

You do realize that you’re asking this question in the “off-topic”section don’t you?

The oil section is doing all well and good 😉

I think the subforums are the other horses. It needn’t be solely about what motor oil should I use for x, particularly for established members….

Simple solution … only read the forums and threads that interest you. Or find a different chat board. ;)

Some of us also go to alternate topics, because we get tired and bored, by threads about obtaining the last bit of info about an oil. At a certain level, oil is oil in my world. Rarely go to a oil threads anymore. Rarely read UOA's anymore. Thicker is better seems to be the doctrine here, it may be. Who really knows. So lately after being chastised for a dyslexic moment about the almighty *** I just stay out of it. Also my one donation to BITOG was the last, after that episode.

It’s always been this way. Seriously
It started with an epic 100 page thread about a rock.

Forums are somewhat like magazine subscriptions. After a decade or two, the basic information has been addressed and re-addressed, with a dose of new, changing information tossed in on occasion.

I think BITOG has matured very well and I give credit to the excellent moderation that keeps us out of the toilet like so many other forums. It's shining star is it's wide range of membership from newbies to seasoned professionals, and everything in between. What really impresses me most are the off-topic threads where men unafraid to share their human frailty assist others with serious life altering circumstances.
