What Gun controllers don't want you to know

One final whack on this dead horse :^)

A suggestion for those who are trying to engage in some semi-rational discussion on firearms, and right away end up accused of being an evil 'gun controller'.

Ask the accuser if they support:

a. Felons carrying firearms, or even issuing firearms to felons, or

b. Kids being able to carry firearms in school, or

c. Want to overturn the National Firearms Act and have the right to mail order machineguns, no questions asked, or

d. Want anyone to be able to buy any type of firearm , no questions asked, etc.

If they support all of the above you're probably going to have a rough time keeping the discussion bounded by any reasonable interpretation of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. If they don't support all of the above they're also some sort of 'gun controller' and you have some common ground, but you may need to remind them of it once in awhile.

Still, a common sticking point are automatic weapons, as Knox has been selling his NRA supporters the idea that they'll eventually get them. The purposed key is to be able to overturn the National Firearms Act, and they've been supporting challenges for quite awhile. The NRA is one the few organizations that does more fund raising than PBS, and NRA members are expecting some sort of return on all of the money that they've contributed. At least they were able to get rid of the liberal gun grabber Charlten Heston as president, for stating "AK-47's are inappropriate for private ownership, of course.".
