what future car features would make you buy a car?

Just curious whats coming down the pipe in the future maybe from people more up on things than I am. :^)

I drive a series of late 80's to 1990's vehicles (except for one 2001 taurus I inherited) and found myself to be largely content. ABS, air bag, seems like tech sorta peaked to me. I've seen HP drift upwards since, but MPG mostly remain the same until just very recently, and just haven't been that improved that even two decades newer is that much better yet.

What kind of things that if they were on a car tomorrow (or maybe they already are) would make you want to spring for getting a new car or truck?


One of the cooler things I saw was that Ford truck trailer backing dial where you I guess steer with the dial.. and the tying of the ABS/stability control somehow to trailer brakes. I think that's the first feature i've seen in over 15 years that's made me say "wow!"

Absolutely nothing. There is nothing that is being made that makes me desire to upgrade, and I don't foresee anything the OEM's would do that would cause me to swoon and want to head on down to the dealer and take a look at. Pickup or car. I only buy a vehicle when I need to and then only get what I need at the time at the best value I can. Most of the features that are on vehicles now I have no use for and rarely if ever take advantage of. Some of the stuff that is standard on many vehicles today, just causes me to invent new swear words. And I am forced to pay for stuff I have no choice in leaving off the vehicle.

Ford's 10 speed automatic in the 2017 F150. Since the introduction of CVT's in cars and 5+ speed automatics in trucks it's interesting to see how hard we can push AT technology.

Yeah and a heated tailgate.

Pretty much all the options that a Mercedes S550 would have. Collision avoidance. Magic body control. Heads up display. Night view assist, etc. Only problem is the price...

A truck with rubber floor, no carpet. Manual windows, bass and treble knobs on the radio. No touch screens of any kind. I might splurge for cruise control.

A replica 54 Chevy with updated engine mgt on Blue Flame 6. Maybe front PDB with ABS. Kept would be the 3 on the tree and the analog clock. I would have a vacuum operated over drive, or a 2 spd rear end. The more non essentials you have, the more stuff to break. KISS

Wife just got an Outback and the Eyesight, ACC, lane monitor etc they where all musts for her. She just went back to work after raising 2 kids so she wanted a nice safe car, I couldn't disagree with her.

That's about right, only I'll be looking for a car with these features. I'd add manual AC as well - a guy's got to splurge on something.

I buy a new car when the old one is toast, I have concerns about reliability, or rust is becoming a problem. My record is 18 1/2 years; should have kept that Volvo (still running perfect) but rust was creeping up.

About a year ago, I bought a 2016 Explorer Platinum. All the bells and whistles are standard on this model. At first, I didn't think I'd have much use for all the gadgets, but over time I've really been impressed by these three features:

1. Adaptive cruise control. Set your speed and the car slows or accelerates automatically depending on traffic.

2. Blind-spot monitoring. Amber LEDs hidden in the side-view mirrors warn me to stay in my lane when traffic is nearby.

3. Front and rear cameras. Make it so much easier to see when pulling out of a side street or backing up.

I like to drive my cars -- and I have a few in the fleet without power steering and without power brakes -- but I really do enjoy the new Explorer and all its technology.

The newest car I've ever owned is a 2002. Not going to catch up technology any time soon. I'll do everything I can to make my next car purchase similar to the features of my 2002. I've been tempted to go back to a 1970-1975 6 cylinder Dodge Dart as a daily driver. At least I can fix everything electrical on that car.

A manual transmission turbo diesel sports car. A Porsche 911 or Audi R8 diesel would be really cool.
Or really any manual transmission turbo diesel car with 250+hp.

Heads up display would be cool. I wish my Mustang had a backup camera. Factory option to have Borla ATAK mufflers would make life a lot easier for the next car.

I'd take an F150 with manual transmission. Matter of fact there's an awful lot of vehicles with substandard headroom that I'd be interested in if they made larger.
