What else is this GM filter fitted to?

I just performed the first oil change on my new car (2 weeks old and 1000miles on the clock). The car ia a Vauxhall Insignia (basically a Buick Regal) and has half a Duramax 3.0 in it, a 1.5 3 cylinder diesel making 122bhp. It's specified for a 0w20 Dexos D oil as per the Duramax 3.0 however it uses a different filter.

Unfortunatley, as the engine is so new over here I'm unable to get a filter from the aftermarket. The only place I could get a filter was Vauxhall themselves who stung me for £44.06 (about $60).

The Vauxhall/Opel part number is 55515474 and when googled it brings up a few GM sites selling an oil filter for less than $5. Does anyone know if these are likely to be the same filter? If so it's probably more cost effective for me to order a handful from the US and get them shipped over. If they are, then what cars/engines are they fitted to in the US? As I could get them via Rock Auto as I've ordered from them in the past.

I did wonder if the weird bypass/stem thing could be replaced with a suitable nipple and a screw-on canister oil filter be used instead.

If it's the same GM part number, it's the same filter.

Contact Hengst with the number on the filter. Sometimes filter companies include applications with their look-up feature.
I cannot read the last 3 digits on the filter. Do the part numbers match?

Gotta love that oil pan! Looks like M.C. Ecsher designed it.

That is a shame about the cost of this filter. I did a search and in the USA the part number has a full retail price of $8.22 and can be bought for a mere $4.46 at some on-line retailers. Maybe you can find the Hengst filter at a local parts house under part number E640H01. It is specific to General Motors/Opel unfortunately.

A Chevy / Buick parts counterman said 11 are available east of the Ohio River with the nearest one 40 miles away in Greenwich, CT.
The list price was the $8.25 mentioned above. I didn't look online.
The ACDelco equivalent part # is PF2268G.

Thanks for your help chaps. A good starting point. May get hold of some of the suppliers in the US and see how much it would cost to get 10 filters shipped over to the UK.

I found a few UK autoparts places that list the Hengst filter but they're out of stock and they want 40 pounds for it, that's nuts, and I thought it was crazy that some of the Royal Purple and Amsoil cartridge filters cost upwards of $20 here in the US, I fret at paying $10 for a Fram Ultra cartridge for the 2.4 Ecotec, but $50-60 for an OEM cartridge that's absolutely bonkers.
