What does an inline tranny filter need?

Looking at the Perma-cool to install in a transmission line, and I was wondering what a transmission filter would have to have. What bypass valve setting, and because it would be running for a while (10K-20K miles) what ADBV would be needed? Sorry if it has been asked before.

ADBV is not needed but is there to prevent gravity backwash if not mounted well. Plus, an ADBV is standard in most filters.

Bypass valve is needed to prevent "reduced cooling/flow" if filter clogs. PSI depends on size of filter, flow through filter, media type.....not worth worrying about if using recommended filter size.

I wouldn't run an ATF filter for 20k miles. A filter is cheap and should be replaced at more regular service intervals(once or twice a year).

The permacool uses the PH8a/FL1a sized filter and cost $2-$5 to replace.
Plus, you get an ATF fluid capacity increase without going to an expensive oversized pan.
And, you can stick magnets to the filter or use an oversized PN for more benefits.

After seeing Dave's post about bigger PH8a's, it got me thinking about what the biggest filter I could get on would need. So no ADBV is necessary. So just read through his thread for the biggest filter that would fit, and don't go crazy high for the bypass valve setting.

I have a Perma Cool trans filter kit on my 03 Escape. Room is a bit limited, so I use a shorter filter. I forgot the Purolator number, but it cross references to an FL300. That is still a massive filter for trans use. Transmission fluid has much fewer contaminants in it than engine oil, so I have no concern running it until I change the transmission fluid at 30,000 miles.

I was planning on getting the biggest filter possible and then changing it every so often. Perma-cool mentioned , what was it, 50K miles?
