20 years? That's all?

I have an aunt that is old enough to be my great grandmother (she's 80).

She's nearly 20 years older than my *father*.

On the other end of the spectrum, I have an Aunt that is 8 years my junior. My Dad is in his mid 50's and one of his 13 brothers and sisters is in her mid 20's. It was always very awkward calling her Aunt Carrie.

My grandparents had kids well into older age.

yeah, it's an age thing. one of my aunt's is only five years older than I am. my mom was 1st of 7 kids. I am only 13 yrs older than my nephew.

But in English I use a(u)nt, aunt, and auntie.

So in Chinese you differentiate between blood aunts, in-law aunts, maternal and paternal aunts? What about cousins? For example, 15th cousin, 5 times removed.

I'm not sure about cousins. I only have three of them, unless you count the ones from my grandfather's wife who's not my mother's mom. I guess they're halves.

I don't know how it works in other families but in mine we refer to each other as brothers and sisters. My aunt's daughter who's my 1st/2nd cousin refers to me as big brother in Chinese and my sister as big sister. In addition to referring to her name we call her 'baby'. If she's lucky, we'd stop that by her mid-teens.
