Hi all. I'm seeing some disagreement back and forth online about the proper coolant for my 2020 MKZ with the 2 liter EcoBoost. Some people say the original stuff is bad some years and to change it to another type of coolant, ETC ETC so on and so forth.

My car has 30k on it with the and the coolant appears very bright and clear. I'm thinking a radiator dump and refill should be fine, but with the OEM Motorcraft? I think it just is rebranded DexCool stuff, no? RockAuto shows Motorcraft Yellow and Prestone Dexcool.

Thanks.

Motorcraft Yellow is Prestone Cor-Guard and is supposed to last 10 years/300k

If you want to change it, consider Peak Titanium.

Is your car still under warranty? You probably shouldn't switch coolants while still under warranty. What does Ford say for the coolant change interval? Or is it part of the IOLM?

Yep, what he said. Here's the Ford spec you're looking for:

The Valvoline/Zerex is labeled for that as well as several others.

Yes it is still under warranty. The car is 5 years old with the factory coolant and sat a while.

I'm thinking about just doing a radiator drain and fill with the Motorcraft VC13G "Yellow" coolant

That is advisable?

I would have thought they would have been using yellow across the board in 2020. That's what my Ranger came with.

But....Ford

Never know what their logic is.

A drain and fill with Motorcraft yellow will not cause any problems. In fact, Ford replaced orange with yellow.

But you can save money by using Prestone coolant from Walmart, since it's the same as MC yellow.
