What Constitutes a true BITOGer

You're probably a BITOG'er if you intuitively know which kind of oil your engine "likes." Bonus points if you can hear the difference.

If you have watched a video of a oil change on a car your considering buying just to make sure it's a user friendly car to service and take this into consideration on the purchase decision.

Bonus points if you have then done research on what filter and oil you would use before even buying the car.
That’s me . I found watching other people’s doing oil change or transmission or rear diff relax me. On the car I own or the cars I like to own .

Only buy the most (in your opinion) stellar motor oil for your high performance car, but then try to run it on 85-87 octane regular and let the engine computer change the ignition timing and fuel richness to avoid engine knock.

Buy spark plugs at bargain prices on eBay, then worry that they are counterfeit.

Know what the two fingers stand for on a Kendall label.

Use Marvel Mystery Oil as aftershave.

Knows Toyota is out of their minds if they really think WS is "lifetime" fluid. Blasphemy!
I recently learned my GX has a "thermal degradation of transmission fluid" algorithm." So even Toyota doesn't claim it's a lifetime fluid all the time! (this factor accelerates when certain ATF temperature thresholds are exceeded).

I turned my daughter's playroom......,,,into MY playroom ( wife or daughter were not happy ) It's FULL of new tires, dozens of those plastic bins full of spare car parts, strut assemblies, rack and pinions, cases of ATF and motor oil, even a rear axle for my riding mower. Does that count ????

To be a true BITOGER you must have at least TWO of the following.
I own none of those things 🤪
I refuse to buy a filter cutter.
Cutting open a filter that's been on your engine for 3000-10,000 miles is kinda too late in case you find an issue, no ? And just because someone finds an issue with filter "X" doesn't mean that every single one produced also has that same issue. Then you have people who buy (2) filters, cut one open and if it's good, they use the 2nd one. They seem to think that "the one was good, the other one must be too".

You change your oil in Walmart parking lot because not allowed to at condo or apartment complex.
I respect the guerilla street mechanic who gets things done. BITOG would lay a tarp down on the tile garage floor, change the oil, launder the tarp, then press and starch it for next time.

So dangerous for the experienced crowd. Never leave a dry sump.
Process control. There’s no reason to let it drip overnight when a proper (hot) drain will have it dripped out in minutes.

Leave the hood up and the filler cap open the entire time. Hopefully that’s sufficient to keep someone driving it off with an empty sump.
