What Connectors Do I Need?

Just bought a 7 gal portable air tank. It's the black one in the pic. I have a small air compressor I used to inflate my tires and such. See the red hose and chrome air chuck.

I am tired of dragging the air compressor out, unwinding the cords, finding an outlet and getting my tire close enough to it, etc . You get the picture.

I want to be able to keep the portable tank filled but I'm ignorant how to make the connections to fill it with the air compressor.

Any suggestions? I guess I could go to Lowes and harass the guy in the tool department...

By the way, the schrader valve on the black tank doesn't work.

At the end of your red hose on your chuck, does it have a quick connect, as part of the black hose? That should fit the male barb on the left side of the picture of your new tank. You'll notice the arrow on the brass "adapter"-- it's a check valve, so air can go in the male side but not leak back out.

The schraeder valve should work, that's the point-- you can drag this down to the gas station and fill it like filling a tire without owning much for tooling.

You need another female quick connect, in the style of the one on the right side of your air tank picture. This would typically be on the end of a hose hooked up to your main compressor. What sort of hose does this compressor have now?

If you got this it would have all you need and more.

No, it screws in. I tried filling it with my current setup just like you would a tire but no air would go through the schraeder valve.

Yeah, I'd get a hose and female quick connect. The check valve will let it fill until equal with your main compressor and then you can disconnect it just as quickly.

The schraeder valve is supposed to work, so it would not be wrong to take this back to lowes and ask what's up.
