What causes this to happen on a 05 Cummins 5.9L?

Under acceleration around 1700 PRMS the tachometer suddenly jumps and the engine makes the revving type noise as if you suddenly pushed in the clutch and stayed on the throttle.

So there is no power increase only increased RPM on the tach...

2005 CTD 104,000 miles. Stock, G56 trans. 285 tires.

If it's an auto, I'd venture to say your transmission's slipping.

This a 6M, Getrag 56 to be exact. I have been trying to pull codes by cycling the ignition and have no luck. Somebody local suggested it might be the APPS throttle position sensor?

Is it just unlocking the torque converter or really slipping and free revving?
A whole bunch of simple sensors could unlock the TC, brakes sensor, throttle sensor, temperature sensor, hopefully its one of these and not a trans problem.

Not sure how I can tell the difference between the slipping or unlocking the torque converter? I can say with RPM increase is zero power gain.

Thoughts?

With the TC unlocking your engine jumps up a couple hundred rpm but keeps pulling the same basically, not any harder but not any less either. If your trans is slipping badly, its like shifting into N from D, with your foot on the gas, the revs will go way up but you're coasting.

Don't confuse me with the facts...

dodge stock clutches are known to be on the wimpy side, if you are running any power programmer an upgraded clutch is a must.

I have seen stock hp clutches slip/fail
