I was walking by one of my trailers today and something on the tire caught my eye.

What could have caused this? Manufacturing or something else? Tires are fairly new elevate str https://www.tredittire.com/tire/elevate-str/

Could be it. This trailer has awesome brakes, best I have ever had on a trailer. I had to lower the input because they did lock up at least once. Those are some deep groves though. BTW I also sent an email to tredit tire to see what they say.

I don't agree with any of those suggestions. The marks ar much too even to have been grooved concrete. I've never seen a road surface with grooves that even.
I've never seen anything like that in a tire, but here is my best guess(s). It's either from manufacturing, or there is tread seperation. This portion of the tread MIGHT be hitting something that is unmoving (part of the trailer) and maybe only at certain speeds.
If you can rule out those possibilities, I'd send a picture to the manufacturer if possible and ask them.

Those dont look cut to me, they appear to be pressed in like it was parked on something with that pattern, although I can imagine what. Best guess is it came from the factory like this.

I don't see how brakes could have caused that, unless the grooves are THAT soft. I would lean toward manufacturing defect(s). I'd think if it were a brake lockup to that extreme, you would certainly feel it upfront while driving.

was the trailer parked in the heat on a surface that would transfer this mark to the tires? Is it only on this tire. Doesn't seem like brake induced. I don't think the lines would be that straight and no signs of rubber tears.

just my $0.02

You parked on something really hot that melted rubber and left its imprint? I've never seen this before.

If they're like trailer tires I've had, they'll wear off eventually. Definitely looks like it locked up & slid on something sharp, when the trailer was EMPTY-note how the grooves get fainter towards the outside edges of the tire.

The first thing I had to decide was if the pattern was molded in by a hot object, or cut in, like with a locked brake. I initially liked the locked brake scenario because this is a trailer

- BUT -

This leaves me more with an impression of molded in. But WHAT?

My best guess is a finely grained cooking grate. Notice that the edges of the pattern look like a tire footprint, further pointing to the tire sat on whatever the object was.

So I don't think this came from the factory that way. I just can't imagine what in a tire factory would cause that.

I agree with this. I would even venture to guess that this is the front tire of the two on this side, and the direction of rotation is CCW looking from the left of the picture.
