Happy Wednesday folks :)

What could I learn from a complete blood test? I notice that from past 6 platelet donations I am negative for the bad thing going on at the present or anti body I should say. I’m not a medical professional, so forgive me. Please feel free to PM me with info and advice. Thank You all

It depends on what tests are included. There are different panels. Generally it tells you your blood counts but there are tests for kidney function, liver function, gout, blood sugar(diabetes), and so on.

I get my blood test results from Quest or LabCorp and they have the normal ranges and Quest tell what each test or panel of tests means. If any test if out of the normal range, I'll google what that means. Usually it depends on how far out of range and if there are any other tests out of range. Do you have a specific concern?
I've audited the labs that do this type of testing and it's pretty cool. Most of it is fully automated. The little tubes of blood they collect from you get transported to the lab and placed, along with other tubes, placed into the machine. The machine is loaded wit several reagents and then the machine goes to work. Spits out the results and reads the bar codes on the tubes so it knows which data goes to which patient.

Since you mentioned platelets and complete, I assume you're talking about CBC or complete blood count. This measures the different types of blood cells in your blood. There are different types of white blood cells and a more detailed test will look at them. As Pimtac mentioned, this is just one type of panel that they can test with your blood. From the Mayo clinic:

A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia.

A complete blood count test measures several components and features of your blood, including:

  • Red blood cells, which carry oxygen
  • White blood cells, which fight infection
  • Hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells
  • Hematocrit, the proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component, or plasma, in your blood
  • Platelets, which help with blood clotting

My Doctor sends me the detailed lab results. She will explain each item.
Perhaps he/she will add to the good information others have posted here for you.
Good luck.

Doctors keep looking at my blood for answers to the health problems I have, without results. My point is that many doctors don't know how to look elsewhere. They are focused on lab testing and often fail to listen, or do any research.
