WHY do we need to do that?

Good point that applies to all forums. Courtesy would say its being locked due to topic, language, whatever. If you know why, you can avoid it in the future.

I fully agree.
A newbee to the site may not understand just what the limits (and touchy subjects) are,
and as you say, COURTESY to everyone who was following the thread, should necessitate a brief explanation.

You have made a good point. I will try to remember to do that in the future. At times we may be working on several problems at the same time.

I always read the excuse that Australians use thicker oil because it is "hotter there" than in the U.S. However, a quick google search showed that the temps are nearly identical to what they are here in FL.

Yeah, we just always used them, and didn't have CAFE.

1qt/3,000 miles would have a true blue Aussie booking the car in for rings and valve stem seals.

People with new cars or late model cars asking what oil to use..Doesn't the car come with a manual..If the salesman who sold you the car has a half of a brain he should know..Until the warranty is up that is what you should be using..

I have seen a couple of warranties void for not using the proper oil or not doing the recommended OCI's.

Isn't that illegal in the US with the M.M. act unless they prove it was because of the oil choice/OCI why damages were caused?

No, you've still got to respect the OCI as far as I know. You may also have to respect the weight and spec, but I'm not 100% sure there. I thought MM only dealt with brands of oil in use. For instance, it would be illegal for Honda to say you have to use Honda oil unless they give you the oil for free. Otherwise they can only give specifications and an OCI that you must follow to uphold the warranty requirements while recommending the Honda oil.
