Did a scrap run "date" with the wife yesterday. Bailing tin is at 4 cents per lb which is pretty darn good for this area (read: nowhere near a coast, port or interstate)

We had about 1000 lbs of bailing tin, a couple bags of pop cans, a couple rotors (cast) and one radiator. Got $67 total then went out to eat. Better than throwing steel in the dumpster AFAIC

Recycled, made a little bit, and spent time with your wife. You can’t go wrong there. 😉🍻

@D60 I love how the rotors came off with a few taps. I beat my 2017 3500 with a decent sized ball peen and made zero progress, they were not even that rusty.

Back around 2013 I helped a friend change front u joints on a 2003ish Dodge 2500 with AAM front. Used a similar puller, which just separated the bearing. Had to use a large chisel and sledge to break it free. That was a chore. Years later I learned that you use a socket and extension on a bolt and use the power steering to pop it free. That worked like a charm on mine. While it rusts in place, its steel on steel.

What is stupid is the 1500 has steel bearing housing against an aluminum knuckle, with nothing in between. Leave it to Ram to design all of this. The mechanic said some "coercion" was necessary.....

I am hoping that the other spline is not so stubborn. If it is, at least I am armed with more knowledge, even if I am slow in the head.

Our GE microwave from 2012 started shutting down-SHUTTING DOWN after it would finish its timer. Interior light, EVERYTHING would go dead. It would then come back after an undetermined amount of time.

I also noticed if I unplugged it it would need some time to come back to life, causing me to wonder about a weak capacitor or timed switch or ..... ?

Sometimes if I banged on it it would come back to life with a garbled screen. All this to say I suspected the control board.

I managed to find the part # for my model but of course long since disco duck. I set up an ebay search and a brand new board popped up as NOS. I gave $170 for it which might be high, but it's kinda difficult to determine market value on discontinued electronics. There are many similar models but most had fewer buttons than mine on the control pad, so it seemed unlikely to find the EXACT board I needed for a 2012 microwave. Thus, perhaps $170 wasn't terrible.

Anyway, initial tests are promising. The problem seems cured but I'll know more after a couple days.

Nothing like a little kitchen counter wrenching, complete with a Carlyle screwdriver and picks from GM Performance, Gearwrench and Husky ;)

A nice bonus is that the LCD is WAY brighter (let's ignore how disgusting the keypad looks in the photo
Should be good for another 14 years now!

Since we recently parked my wife's (former) '08 F150 SCREW, I needed tires for my '07 F150. We had just put new 315s on the wife's truck before it cratered. It had come with aftermarket wheels and 315s, so we had just replaced with what was already there.

I stole her wheels & tires for my '07, thus 315/70/17 will fit '04-08 F150 4x4 stock height. I did only the tiniest bit of trimming on plastic bits with my OMT:

Her '08 had also come with an SCT tuner and the PO told me a tune was installed. It ran fine, so for all the years we owned it I never even pulled the tuner out of the center console.

I figured my anemic 2V 4.6 could use any help -- especially after going from 285 to 315 -- so I removed the tune from her '08 and installed the "Tow" tune on my 4.6. Did it do anything? No idea as I didn't drive it before (with the 315s).

One cool thing with this tuner: it has the option for "rear 02s off." I of course did not utilize this. Still, if I stop posting you'll know the feds raided my place Roger-Stone-style.....and I'll need bail money.

Finally addressed a nagging intermittent no-start on my L2800. If you don't get that loud click when you turn the key, it's the fuel solenoid.

I decided to try a $27 knock-off from Amazon. It was well reviewed, and works for now. Time will tell.

Tire rotation and brake fluid change on the 2021 Ram. After 70,000 miles and 5 years, figured it was past time to do the brake fluid. Surprisingly, lots of brake pad material left after 70,000 miles. Stellantis gets an F for putting the strainer in the master cylinder reservoir that's not removable without destroying it, so you can't suck fluid out of the reservoir. Fluid was pretty dark all around, but now it's looking much lighter. Glad I bought a fresh quart of brake fluid, because I used almost all of it.

@Dave Sherman the little strainer is removable but you need a pick to snag it. Under the strainer is a plastic peice that crosses the opening. Still gets in the way to suck out the fluid.
I just had this experience in an '18 Tiguan. The part of the job that was most time consuming was removing that stupid strainer!!

Every video people just pulled it out, but I had to use picks to get under the lip and then briefly deform it to get it free. Story of my life.

2003 Ford Focus PCV replacement.
Parts list is longer than normal (,like.just pcv valve). You need a pcv valve, a pcv tube, and pcv tubing to intake.
More complicated than normal.

Then refilling with that stupid strainer is well, slower than me.

On my 2020 Ram, I did nor have a line small enough that would work on my suction gun so I had to bleed the whole reservoir out. I left the strainer in because at that point, I figured I would be dumb enough to drop something in.

Hammered out a low metal fairing for the Tacoma roof rack. It’s been quiet up to about 65 but is awful above that due to wind buffeting - I’ve never had a roof rack make this much noise. Used aluminum tread plate with the smooth side exposed.

Changed the ZTR blades, mowed the lawn, trimmed all of the bushes and cut down two holly bushes that are too mature to be maintained in their space. It was a good day to be outside.

Found another 80s Vw gage cluster on eBay for a decent price and bought it - been enjoying making conversation-piece clocks out of them. Most of these clocks still work, and if they don’t the most common repair is to replace to electrolytic caps which predate the surface mount stuff.

Helped my neighbor change the left headlight (low beam) bulb in his '17 Grand Cherokee. Far from the worst headlight change, but really not enjoyable. Even once you pull the dust cover it's deep within a hole in the back of the headlamp housing.

Nothing too mechanical this weekend. Just finished the first team penning event of the season. Was a busy event with 111 cattle shipped in. Im always running here and there to fix little things, shovel sht, drag the arena, fix more little things, shovel sht, continue fixing more things, insult some people, be insulted by people etc.

My 17 year old daughter did pretty good. Her 4 year old half Arab mare hit her limit so she couldnt make all the runs. Using a loaner, she still pulled money this weekend. Not a lot but her 1100$ entry fees were covered. Oh wait, my 1100$ entry fees were covered.

Tomorrow the sleds will be put away for the season. I need to treat the fuel, run them and put them in the coverall. Then onto vehicle maintenance again. Stay tuned for "White trash stories, the life and times of Brian F."
