What are you working on today?

Safety wired my Votex magnetic drain plug on my new 26' Honda Passport. I figured why not? Just drilled a 1/8" hole in the skid plate and called it a day.

2008 Mountaineer:
-engine oil change
-wired up new TPS connector

2017 Highlander:
-engine oil change
-replace air filter
-disable seat belt chimes w Carista

2004 F250:
-replaced left parking brake cable. This ended a saga of not being able to get this parking brake to work, even by the low standards of these trucks. The cable punked me because it was very obviously moving (quite a bit), but somehow it was not allowing enough movement, and this prevented the entire system from working. I had already replaced the right months ago because it was obviously seized.

My small town O'Reilly even had a Saturday driver and brought the cable to me. I gave him a $50 late-Christmas tip

Yesterday I got the Ford done. All O'Reilly's parts, rotors, pads, spindle nuts, and following a test drive I had to replace the left front brake caliper. The caliper wasn't releasing all the way. New headlights look a lot better.

Went ahead and helped the neighbor get his water heater installed. I guess I've got the day off.

The neighbors sled has come back to the shop. Ran great for maybe 30km before logging down ans dying. Cleaned and synced the carbs again but could only get it to fire briefly. Have fuel pumping, the carbs accepting fuel and good spark. The plugs aren't great and I cant really comment on compression.

Yesterday my wife,.oldest daughter and I were at the feed store. We are minority owners so we spent some time and money on new shelving, organizing product and signage.

Forgot to mention I relubed the slide pins. Bottom ones on each side were stuck causing uneven rotor wear.

Serviced the generator. Filled two jugs with 91 + stabil (in case the power doesn't go out so the gas will keep) in anticipation of the ice storm that's already started. So far, it's nowhere near as bad as the last one, and the tree that took out my hydro and destroyed my panel is no longer with us, so things should be a bit more resilient.

I usually run a Fumoto valve on everything but I didn't like the adapter configuration. Saw a lot of recommendations for magnetic plugs and good filters on the new Honda. I like not having to worry about it coming loose, plus I usually only do 1 or 2 oil changes a year so it's not really an inconvenience.

I've had that problem with the wife's '08. It's 4wd but I think brakes are identical...or at least calipers.
Think the difference between 2wd and 4wd on that generation is the 2wd has the wheel bearings pressed in to the rotor and also wheel studs, whereas the 4wd uses slip on rotors. The 2wd uses a spindle for the rotor assembly to ride on with a one time use nut and cotter pin.

I didn't want to create a new thread, and I'm hitting a lot of sites so...

I use this place a lot for info, and thank you for that. Today's question...

What brand aftermarket motor mount (2003 Ford Focus w/2.3 duratec/AT) when I CAN NOT FIND OE. I have tried. I would gladly drop 150 for a nice motorcraft mount (specifically the primary/passenger side engine mount). If it exists, I can't find it. So, I know I want hydraulic to match the original, and I have found two. DEA/Marmon (A5312) and Napa has one by Balkamp (it's the whole array, I prefer to just install the new bushing and keep the original bracket.

Anyway, if there are other brands/sources out there, I hoped someone here might know. I'll do the other mounts as well but for those I'm less concerned about OE.

I guess good news is it's a very easy install so if I have to just do it every two years, so be it. I just don't want it to suck right after install.

Thanks again for all the knowledge here. Long time lurker first time poster.

Welcome.

It's probably discontinued forever, but for fun, you could try and order this Canadian listing

I'd personally trust Napa or this other brand from IPD before DEA/Anchor/other white box trash 🗑️
https://www.ipdusa.com/products/635...pBtyFyyCZ5AZ2Iz7DooX2-jYE0yPFvkhkJwgAgpw7SkT_
3S4Z-6038-BA (assuming 2.3 & 4 speed automatic)

We have a resident Ford parts counter expert, he'll probably be along shortly

Yeah I saw that canadian one. I may go for it though it says it's not showing in stock :(

Interesting find on the IPD, I had not seen MTC brand before. Thank you!

You can save searches on eBay and RearCounter if you're that dedicated to the cause
Ebay I couldn't find much but junk or reprints of stuff available elsewhere. They all seem to pull from the same warehouses lol. I have just about accepted OE doesn't exist anymore (contacted Canada, awaiting reply). So then, what is the better aftermarket brand(s)?

Good news, it's a pretty easy swap, so if it's only a couple years til I do it again, that's fine. I really just would like it to at least work when it's new.

I dunno on your Gen but I put this in an '09 and it would still rattle your fillings at idle. Would not recommend

Wish I could offer you a suggestion, but unfortunately good aftermarket motor mounts seem to be a unicorn. I feel blessed that I was able to get OEM for my Corolla. Kind of makes me want to buy another set just to have down the road!
