What are you working on today?

Picked up a newer lowboy with much nicer hydraulic ramps to haul farm and construction equipment around. Today it’s getting a coat of the finest Schaeffer 700 recycled floor sealant. I’ll do two coats and then I’m going to start working on putting a gas powered power pack together to run the ramps and a hydraulic winch. Started putting a list together on Surplus Center this morning.

Last week I missed three days of work, Tuesday through Thursday, sick as a dog. Didn't have covid but was treated for flu like symptoms. The Monday I worked I finished up some link bar orders, and the Friday I worked they had me start a batch of parts they usually make on CNC. Fortunately enough, the manual machine schedule that week was so slow I basically missed three days of having to find something to do. This previous week I finished up two batches of usually CNC sourced parts, spent one day mostly cleaning and doing piddly things to stay busy, then started another batch of hydro boost units for modifications yesterday. Still haven't completely recovered from the fatigue of whatever I had the previous week, everything takes a lot out of me, but it is getting better. Managed to get some exercise today and run a few errands. Last weekend I pretty much stayed in bed.

Dryer was making a metal on metal sound, sounded like a the motor armature was beginning to grind into the stator, yet without the bearing sounds that usually come with that. LOUD. I’m guessing it’s 6 years old? Came with the house.

Pulled it apart and vacuumed out lots of stuff.

This dryer is billed as a Maytag bravo commercial technology label. There are 5 rollers supporting the drum, and one small tensioner pulley on the belt. The drum rollers look like inline skate wheels and probably spin at 300 rpm. The belt tensioner spins at maybe half motor rpm, so 900.

All bearings are simple metal bushing on metal post, with no signs of any more than maybe a light machine oil from the manufacturer?

Cleaned them up, rubbed in some mobil1 lithium grease, and put the cheesy little plastic clips that holds them on in place. Was fortunate that while the metal is a little burnished, it’s not galled. Hopefully get a little more use out of it! I can only think that while it does support the drum better than others I’ve had apart, these bearings are intended to fail.

Rechecked fluid levels on the xB and the Milan
I like to recheck ATF ~1 week after service, it needed a few oz to bring it to the hot range

My friends '16 Fusion 2.0 EB has been out of boost and a CEL for nearly a year, time to right that (in the rain of course 🙄)
Wastegate solenoid looks to be a victim of rust jacking
Fairly easy swap, just awkward location
Might as well do an OCI, and I did
Gotta get rid of that Castrol Edge EP somehow

It'll need outer tie rod ends and rear pads before Winter, to make inspection in January

Got the recoil all figured out for the champion genset. Took some trial and error but its up and running. It doesnt help that im pretty stupid.... maybe deprived of oxygen as a child?? I hooked up the travel trailer to put a load on it. Works good! I drained out the old treated fuel and add fresh stuff. The oil is many years old but next to nothing for run time on it. Still golden so it stayed.

Winterized the camper, found bear scat near it, which is maybe 30 feet from the house. Those pesky little black bear....

I then hauled in 3 big buckets of horse manure to the garden. I had this special pile hiding that is several years old. Just have to till it in.

Then drug out the little Husqvarna rear tine tiller. Got an oil change, greased the gear case and checked the plug. Ill hit the garden with it tomorrow.

Engine is out on the RTV. Pressure washed the bay. The dump cylinder might be leaking or one of the lines, the engine/trans cradle bushings are worn. I will be replacing all coolant hoses, deleting the AC, but keeping the cab heater.

I need to pause a little bit for some garage consolidation/reorganization. Taking a week off work.

About 90% done with the tasks for removing the donor engine for the "good" RTV. This RTV will likely be used for parts, or a long slow rebuilt if i can scavenge money to rebuild the transmission. I now have 2 blown engines and a few known good injection pumps and might be able to cobble 1 good engine together.

The Ram is heading to auction in a few weeks, some minor things to make ready. My longer term plan involves a bigger truck and a CDL.

Replacing the rubber steering coupler on the '74 Tr6. I have not replaced this in my ~30 years of ownership, but I do inspect it every year, however I'm replacing it now out of caution. It is noticeably softer than the replacement and has hairline cracks, but nowhere near failure. These have to be replaced under compression to line up holes, like a small Guibo.

I did my research and located what appears to be a quality replacement, but anyone what to bet that the replacement will last as long?

I do get to use my safety wire pliers!

(what appears to be a crack in the yoke is the gap for clamping)

Seeing as it is snowing/sleeting, I figured a few indoor jobs needed to be done. Drained the old treated fuel from the chainsaw and filled it with fresh treated mix. Ran if for a bit and put it away.

Then went to grease the Polaris Magnum, inspect the brakes and change the hub oil. Was going well until I discovered on of the front CV shaft boots split. Great. Well the U joints also need replacement and there is a small amount of play anyway. I am leaning towards new complete shafts. Once its apart, I'll end up doing ball joints and hub seals..... never ends, I suppose.

Looks just like our Maytag. I recently had mine apart to replace a failing motor, it was "supposed" to be under warranty but I couldn't get through to anyone at Maytag to open a case...

Oh well, a new motor was $35. Good on you for keeping it going!
