New Sachs front struts on '10 Venza. I didn't realize (some?) of the Sachs stuff was made in US but these had a sticker declaring USA COO

Sometimes I run into problems with "coarse" springs on my old Branick. Basically I'll run out of travel and the carriage will hit the lower arm supports:

I've always wanted to make spacers for the upper arms on the carriage, and there are slotted holes which appear to be for just this purpose.

I decided on hole spacing of 1.750" and tapped some steel stock 5/16-18. I did 1", 1.25 and 1.5" and also 1x2 on edge making for a 2" spacer. 1" thick shown here:

Rotated tires, replaced front brake pads and rotors, changed oil

Rollover with a good 5.7 Vortec. Got a few more things to take loose and I'll have the engine out in the morning.

Got the engine out of the Yukon this morning. Removed the aluminum wheels and decent all terrain tires that were on it and replaced them with mixed match steel wheels with junk air holder tires.

Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter

Replaced alternator

Fixed one of the 425/65R22.5 pusher axle tires on my dump truck
Hauled two loads of rock for a county road
Knocked out a couple more forklift PMs
Stopped by our local fire department and picked up my jacket, pants, boots and helmet. I joined the volunteer fire department after helping with a house fire last Saturday morning from like 1am to 7-8am. It was kind of a right place-right time kind of deal.

Re-booted front outer on a '15 Forester. Doing this job around a bunch of abrasive dust is best practice, yes?

I will say using an OEM kit sure is nice. The clamps are sized exactly so they just slip on and all you do is squeeze them. No desperately trying to catch the next set of teeth to get it snug before you squeeze it down.

My little Hobart Trek keeps ticking. 220V output (180A) on a 110V extension cord of unlimited length. Handy.

I cheat by concreting 2.5" pipe in the ground, length wild. Then I sleeve 2" into it and set my final desired height and weld.

Nothing like showering in sparks on Christmas day!!

Helped my friend/boss install some lower quarter panel patches on a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle. I'm not a welder or body man, so mostly just fetched tools and helped hold things in place.

Pulled the original chrome 5 spokes off and replaced with 17" torque thrust II's

Just got home from helping him pick up 1973 Chevrolet Nova.

Let's normalize replacing the crush washer
2020 Elantra 2.0 Nu (MPI) with 32k on it, I'm probably the first non dealer oil change it's had
It's getting Total 5w30 and an OE Hyundai filter
The cap recommended 5w20 isn't enough
The rattle at start-up is concerning
I've already witnessed two of these 2.0 Nu engines unalive themselves
Splash shield clips missing, battery weak, wiper blades factory and crumbling

This is AFTER a trip through the car wash
So I'm gonna lightly scrub by hand tomorrow
Replaced the missing licence plate lamp
No one knows where/how it went missing
Front pads are quite low, that's on the near future agenda

Where do these people get the audacity

Tomorrow Im about to commit one of the great sins of auto mechanics.

Im gonna pad slap some junkyard pads in to my junkhauler minivan. She only runs once or twice a month now so Im not too worried. Pulled the pads from the junkyard yesterday.

Went with the the boss to pick up a 1995 GMC 1500 Z71 that needs an engine. I'll likely be pulling it next week to send off to the machine shop. About six and a half hours on the road.

Mr. Clean sponges would be my route. Don’t know if they’ll work for that but I’ve had excellent luck with them

Rear sway bar links and bushings

Swapped the serpentine belt, because at 13 years old, it's probably time
Bando aftermarket was utilized
I thought the belt drive noise was the OAP, but now I suspect it's the tensioner

Oh, and I found where the loose T20s were to tighten the wobbling mirrors

Replaced the alternator in my truck. Original alternator from when the truck was built. 89 model built in 88. So 35 years old wow. Probably the easiest alternator I’ve ever done. Took me just under an hour and that was including rounding up tools and stuff.
