What are you working on today?

2005 Chevrolet Equinox
Replaced rear wheel hubs and wheel cylinders, replaced serpentine belt and tensioner, changed oil

Went to the range this afternoon. Got home and took my pistol apart for a good cleaning. Reassembling it now

Quick and dirty install on this auto dimming mirror in the xB
Just the switched power and a ground for now, all I had time for
Toyota switches the 12v dash mounted power point, so I often tap there for mirror/charger/dashcam installs
These CIPA/Donnelly dimming mirrors can do all kinds of tricks, if you pick up extra terminals and wire them up
  • 12v Constant
  • 12v Switched
  • 12v reverse inhibit
  • Ground constant
  • Ground dome lamp input

Last night picked up the JD mower from my mom’s ranch, and my craftsman riding mower that was retired after the JD was bought. It’s funny seeing them nose to nose and the size difference. The craftsman has sat for 10 years. Will try to revive it and possibly loan to the in law because their cub cadet is dead, likely due to lack of maintenance. The JD needs a detail, and replacing the K46 fluid and installing 2 drain plugs.

Put together dads new grill today. Been in the box for about 4 years lol. He loves his little table top one but when we have family events it doesn’t cook enough food at once. This thing was complicated as heck to put together the instructions are just pictures no description or anything and not easy to follow. I am glad that’s over with I’m pouring sweat now. Maybe we can go get something to grill on this new guy lol. It’s hot outside and I didn’t have any clean shorts so I’m burning up. But glad it’s together. Mom has been on me about getting it together so she is happy now we all are.

Went over to a customers house to look at their 2008 Ford Edge.... someone shot at them last night with what looks like a .22. a hole in the grill, core support, radiator, and valve cover. Another hole in the left headlight. They were driving home and got fired on by an approaching truck when they met. I was so surprised I didn't think to take pictures, but they got plenty. If I end up fixing it I'll get some pictures.

I’m curious as to why anyone would shoot at anyone else in a vehicle 🤔🤔🤔

Something don’t add up 🙊🙊🙊🙊

Little road trip to pick up a Kubota L245 today. About 180 miles each way. I wasn’t in the market for another tractor (this is # 11) but I stumbled on it on marketplace one night and there was just something about it that got me 🙄. Came with a 4’ brush hog, small disc, 1 bottom plow, box blade and a straight blade.

Gonna change all the fluids and grease it up. Need to change the thermostat bypass hose and I’ll probably do a water pump-the bearings sound pretty bad. It’ll be leaking in no time. Got some wiring to clean up around the alternator and one headlight not working. Excited to see how it looks with a wash and wax.

I don’t know if I’ll be it’s permanent home but I’m gonna make it right regardless.

About to crawl under the car and loosen the O2 sensor. It decided to toss a P0420 code last night. BUT as it’s over 20 years old I don’t have to actually repair it. But… not sure I want to look at the CEL going forward, just in case it tosses a code for something else. So I’m thinking of trying out some spacers to see if that “fixes” the issue.

Might hit up the outdoor fleamarket after that, I went last time and there was an ancient bubble balancer that had lost its bubble juice. I think that can be restored, just add oil, but didn’t want to drag it home at the time only to find out it was sealed for life and thus forever broken. Might be worthwhile to have around, in case I ever want to mount up tires again. Let me rephrase: just in case I ever mount up tires again, they’re no fun to do by hand.

No luck in budging the O2 sensor, or I should say, I don't want to break something else. But I don't think that's the issue--I thought I heard a leak yesterday, and so while it was up I fired up. Yep, right after the cat (but before the O2) I felt plenty of breeze. On the good side it felt like it plugged itself up while running? not sure if self sealing or coming off high idle.

Wonder if exhaust cement will fix? Otherwise off to the shop I guess, I don't do exhaust work if I can avoid it (maybe this would not be too bad, just sawzall the bolts and replace everything after the cat?).

I'm skeptical that a leak after the cat would cause your efficiency code, but it'd be nice to fix the leak either way....

Fake MAPP gas or an LP torch to the bung will almost surely allow you to get the sensor out if you're using the appropriate socket and enough leverage

edit: if you ever see old school bottles of MAPP circa '08 or earlier at that flea market, hoarde them!!

A bit bummed, as I think I replaced that O2 maybe 5 years ago? pretty sure I used the anti-seize on it. So it shouldn’t be stuck—shouldn’t be.

I thought about wrenching on it, as it should come out. Thing is, if I have an exhaust leak nearby, and i really torque on this, is there a chance I might open up that leak worse? Granted, the leak needs repair; a bubblegum repair is not going to last for very long. But would I rather not open up the crack (or whatever it is), try some cement, and go from there?

Oil change on my neighbors '04 Highlander MZ V6
I think I found out why it's leaving drips all around the front of my house 🙄

I'm so professional, I found an oil pen, so I marked up the OE filter and the oil change labels Advance Auto provides for free 🆓
He got Total Long Life 5w30 and a YZZG2, a crush washer
Some washer fluid, and vacuum of the compost out of the cowl
CHMSL is inop, the housing melted
I'll have to advise him of that

Got under it, and I grab the exhaust, give a wiggle, and it looks loose to me. I'm starting to wonder if something literally rotted away here, like the entire bracket that holds the work together.

Think I'll leave this to the garage, there's a chance my teen daughter might be driving this car around. I'll gamble with my life--hers, not so much. Speaking of which, still looking for her first car, oh what fun this is. Wife though I think is buttering me up to just buy myself a new car.

Few brake jobs today. Ordered rear rotors and pads for 2020 Jaguar F Type SUV gas engine. That’s tomorrows project. Brembo rotors and pads coming.

I cleaned up storm debris this morning and had a brush fire. This afternoon another storm came through but fortunately didn't knock down any limbs and whatnot.
