What are you working on today?

Awesome and hilarious because I wondered about that. It looked to me like the arm was not built with splines but was supposed to be a "form-a-spline" by mashing it onto the conical shaft.

Also hilarious because their fix is "make it tighter".....which is what I instinctually did. I got it gutentight plus a bit more, but didn't want to snap the male threads.

Toyotacare has been around for what, 12 years now? Wouldn't it have been your responsibility to check the service history to see if the last service included a LOF?

If parts handed you the wrong fluid, would you still install it? Or would you check the service information first? Come on...
I would have to ask the advisor to see the service history. We only check it generally if something is messed up like a loose drain plug or rounded off or something like that so we can see who done it. It’s not my responsibility I have to do what’s written down. That’s how my company works anyway. When it’s something like a 30K service for example there is no computer work on the technicians end they fill out a multipoint inspection form and we do that and give it back. They don’t even put it in the computer till the end when they create an RO so I wouldn’t have been able to see anything easily anyway. And since they changed CDK system I have a hard time even seeing what I’m supposed to be doing cause I don’t know how to navigate it. But they don’t put stuff like that in the computer till the end anyway then just put our number on it.

Today was pretty busy. Definitely wasn’t expecting it to be busy. The engine came in for the Land Cruiser I mentioned last week so going to put that in tomorrow. I hate putting a junkyard engine in but it’s what they paid for so it’s what I’ll use. Today done brakes and tires. Also done three Tundras oil, rotate that the lube techs got backed up so everyone was helping them out. I hate working on Tundras unless they are really old or 2022+ with the spin on filters. One particular i hated because of the aftermarket wheels that weighed probably 100 pounds. I will never understand why someone would buy aftermarket stuff for a car but that’s just me. I also diagnosed a water pump. It’s not due till end of week so I have time to do the engine tomorrow and possibly next day depending on how long it takes. I should have told them I’d do it on my own but it will be nice to learn from an old timer. They were going to let me do it on my own I just wasn’t comfortable enough I’ve never done one in a Land Cruiser. I’ve done one in a Chevy Cavalier and Ford Bronco and really old Ford Trucks but nothing this modern lol.

Just finished swinging in a new blower at work. Started tear down at 4:15 and by 5:45 the new one was in place. 27 minutes from lifting the failed one to the new one sitting on the frame. We’ll work on it through our shift and have it ready for day shift to fire up at 8am tomorrow.

Re-clocked a wiper arm on a '19 Rebel for a friend that inexplicably came loose. She stopped at an O'Reilly on the road and they snugged it down but put it halfway up the windshield at rest. Who does that?!?!?

The nut is hidden by the hood when closed and they barely give you enough Z-space to use a puller when the hood is open.

I actually really like this inexpensive wiper puller I got thru Amazon awhile back. Comes with 2 sets of armsView attachment 141311

I love that windshield arm puller! I first discovered that exact tool years ago while watching our glass guy install a windshield. At the time, he flat out refused to tell me where he'd purchased it. However, the almighty Google always comes out victorious.

It wasn't an easy tool to find, I ended up having to get it from a local automotive glass supplier but man was it worth it. I have yet to find a style of wiper arm the thing fails to remove.

Installed a new thunderbucket. The Mansfield that was in there didn't flush right so Lowe's had a sale on Kohler and American Standard toilets. Put in an American Standard at my co-workers house last week and I really liked it. However, the heat register is behind the toilet, so I had limited room and the back of the AS was too long. The Kohler had just enough room!

Can barely put a piece of paper behind there!

Flushes much better and uses less water. Better for the aging septic and leach field.

Still need to regrout all the tile. The nicotine stains are just too deep. I might try one last ditch effort with an acid, but will probably be re-grouting.

Last weekend pulled the dash out of my 2004 Focus. Ever since 2008 there has been electrical gremlins not just in mine by many others have complained. Sit in the dark car at night and the overhead light flashes on and off, the upshift light, oil light, and alternator warning lights are flickering, the car beeps, and the remote door locks and trunk don't function. No one knew what the cause was. Corrosion? Grounds? Well corrosion not and issue for me and I put in two more grounds to no avail so I lived with it. Last weekend, for the hell of it, I pulled the dash and wiped the back of the circuit board with Deoxit (it was clean) and then sprayed it into the pin connector. Wiped the excess and then put the connector onto the pin side half a dozen times to wipe them. Put it all back together and guess what no warning lights. The dome light works normally, the beep is gone, and the remote locks for doors and trunk work. Go figure!

Today was the day to change the oil in the 626 with 210,000 miles on it and the valve cover gasket. That meant into the driveway and the need to remove a vehicle for access. Since the F100 went out last weekend it was the Polara today. Of course, that took 1 hour as I can't just move it without taking it on a 45 mile drive. Unlike the Parklane I never had it up to 90-100 mph but had a chance today on a quiet spot. I was pleasantly surprised how stable the car was even at 300 lbs. less than the Parklane. Anyway back and finished the 91 626. Used Quaker State High Mileage Syn/blend 5W-30.

Oh, and on Saturday installed a newly made window frame in Pri-Fly aboard the USS Hornet. Now seven more to make for the rusted out overhead frames.

Have fun with that Land Cruiser. Where I work we send carp like that to dealer to do.

It will definitely take you a few days not just one day.

Funny 'cause the '04-08 F150s regularly get a ghost dome light. That's a solder connection in the instrument cluster...because it makes sense to run your dome light through your instrument cluster. Clearly around '04 Team TFI was crushin' it.....

2016 F250 FX4, 6.2L/6R100, 56,000 miles, Customer complaint of a "Bell Sound" in 4 wheel high....He heard it during the ice storm we had a couple weeks ago while using 4WH.

Confirmed the noise in 4WH, Sounds like someone is dropping pieces of steel on the ground right under the driver seat. Interestingly enough no noise was heard in 4WL?

Racked the truck & looked for anything loose, Vacuum tested the hubs & they appeared fine. In fact everything looked perfect & payed special attention to the front shaft U-joints., T-case & front diff full of fluid. Took it for another test drive, manually locked the hubs but left the T-Case in 2WH, Noise still present.
Unlocked one hub at a time & it seemed to make the noise more often with the right hub unlocked & the left hub locked, But it was hard to tell the noise was sporadic anyway.

Racked the truck again, Spun the front drive shaft again but I guess a little faster maybe out of frustration, As I spun it several times checking the U-joints. And I heard a metallic clang. Difficult to recreate spinning it by hand.
Took some rope & ran several rounds on the DS, Pulled the rope hard as I could while keeping my ear close to the shaft & the noise was far more audible.
Remove the front DS....Shook it, And it has something loose inside the tube:rolleyes:.....Like a 1/2" bolt or something. Having the DS cut open tomorrow & I'll report back with what's found inside.

Still wonder why I didn't hear it in 4WL, Maybe I didn't get up enough road speed?

Lexus:
  • Got the flat repaired ($20).
  • Rotated the tires. Removed tire shop over-torqued lug nuts with impact and re-torqued to specs
  • Inspected brake wear; will need rear brakes in the near future.

I really want to know what's in there! If you order these shafts today they're made in China -- actual blue box Motorcraft parts. I'm betting even in 2016 the driveshafts the factory was using were also built in China.

The local indy fixed a flat for a client and we then learned they over-tightened the lugnuts (I just happened to be installing McGard solid lugnuts to get her away from the stupid 2-piece design). '99 Ram 1500

She was pissed and took it back to indy. TWO lugnuts were seized. This place is so pathetic I bet they don't have or even know 18.5 mm sockets exist. They did this and said bring it back when you can leave it:

She brought it to me instead. Seized lugnut #1 came out beautifully with an extractor, this is what success looks like:
