What are you working on today?

I tightened the alternator belt on my Camry to prevent a low class and distasteful squeak on startup

Now to troubleshoot the jingle idling in gear that now exists after having a flex pipe welded in

I suspect they jammed a slightly longer flex in, and it's affecting engine movement

Still airing out the Project xB, and still waiting for parts

It now has insurance, still waiting on DMV for plates

That is just what I needed. Thanks. There didn’t appear to be any broken ones when I took the connection off the IAC when I replaced it a few months ago. This will be a learning experience for sure because I am not too good with electrical stuff. We are scared to have it running too long but if it will help with diagnosis then it should be ok. It hasn’t run more than 10 seconds at a time since this issue started.
Only way to learn is to ask someone or try looking at wiring diagrams. “Didn’t appear” don’t cut it in the real world shop. A good multi meter and asking for help and exploring and trying things helps anyone out most times. Ask me how I know 👍👍

Those diags you lose your butt on stick with you like herpes! I still remember spending a full day checking every component imago on an Escort that the AC compressor wouldn’t kick on because the last guy put in the wrong ccrm. “It shouldn’t be that it’s a brand new Ford part” I said to myself as I continued to chase my own tail.

Or the 4.3 Chevy truck that required replacement of about everything that could cause a misfire. Came in for a customer requested set of spark plugs. Put just plugs in it the old ones were obviously fouled but it still ran like crap with new plugs. Found the distributor full of corrosion and that the AC line was leaking condensation into the distributor. New cap, rotor and a good cleaning ran great until under load because…..the converters were plugged from driving for so long with a constant misfire.

Both of those would have been discovered pretty quickly by a tech with more experience than I had at the time.

Today diagnosed a no crank, no start. Used car, customer was on test drive and it died and would not start back up. Got towed in and purchased by customer. Ended up being aftermarket battery terminal came loose and the cable came out. It died because it was a bad battery and he had the radio and everything on too so it probably killed it. Since he bought it we put a brand new battery in and have a new terminal coming in the morning for it. Also replaced the wing nuts holding on both terminals with regular nuts as I didn’t trust the wing nuts on there and they were hard to turn to tighten because they were hitting the battery. I hate seeing hack jobs done. I had parts order battery terminal felts and protectant too for it because I want to do the job right.

Also done a cash car too. A cash car is a used car that has so many miles that we won’t warranty anything and the price is cheap enough that it can be paid for in cash and when we get it as trade we spend minimal money on it. This car had a cylinder 3 misfire so swapped the coil and plug to different cylinders. Ended up being plug. Went to one of the Kia techs and got a used plug and put in it and sent it. I wanted to replace all 4 plugs but they said they will not pay for four plugs in a car with no warranty so put this plug in and send it. Not what I wanted to do. Car in question is a 2015 Hyandai Sonata with 183,000.

You can always remove the IAC & plug the ports with tapered plastic plug caps of the correct size.....Can even put a small hole in the one the vacuum side to bypass some air so the engine will idle.
This will also PROVE that it's a IAC issue & not a huge vacuum leak somewhere else.

Can't work "Heavy Line" your entire career, Electrical Diagnostics is one of the cornerstones of becoming a master mechanic.
Like you, I wanted nothing to do with electrical in my first few years but quickly realized it was a necessity.

I'm guessing there's at least one guy on the line where you work that's really good at electrical?

Yes there is a really good electrical guy. He has shown me stuff too I’m slowly learning it. It’s a lot to grasp. And not getting to do it all the time doesn’t help only when we are slow and he is doing something. If I can source some caps I’ll try capping it off to confirm. I did replace a whole section of vacuum line that was busted and dry rotted and didn’t find any other places where it was broken.

Checked out a wood splitter that was running rough. Then the pull rope broke. Plug looked rough. Put in a new pull rope and higher heat range fine wire plug. Ran like a champ no need to tear into the carb. Oil looked brand new and owner changed it last year no need for that either. I really gotta quit talking myself outta this unnecessary work people want done 🤷‍♂️

Found a fuel leak on my FS80 brush cutter. Brittle old fuel tank leaking at a seam and unburnt oil from muffler. I’m gonna order a new tank and adjust the mix ratio.

Fuel level sender in an '02 Ram 2500 Cummins. Float had completely fallen off the arm. Mystery solved.

Installed new Mopar sender.

Replacing the 2AR-FE in a 2014 Scion TC, 111,000 HARD miles, Head gasket blown between #2 & #3 along with signs of excessive oil consumption. Located a low mileage 2AR-FE out of a 2014 Rav4.

Under the dash in the company flatbed. Checking for inop steering wheel tilt. Hydraulic rod puked out oil so it can't hold tilt. Doused turn signal switch with DeOxit to solve erratic turn signal lights. Turn signals would flicker between left and right signal lights with stalk at either direction.

How'd the turkey baster work out?
Pause on that. When my car got stuck in the ditch, I now get more hot heat than previous. My passenger front was ready to slide and get smashed by a huge drainage pipe, I stopped in time so it didn't.. the driver rear was on the road... my weight helped me, I'm down to 238lbs. I'm losing weight.

It may still be a little plugged, I'm going to give it a few days to see if air bleeding 1. Happened 2. Occured over a few days 3. Is my heat hot and stays that way. It is hotter on fan setting "2" than "4" usually.

That, and it rained all all day, again, so if I DO unclog it that way, it will not be in the pouring rain.....

It's got a Cop motor, Cop tyres....

1987 Mitsubishi Galant...the real deal cop car of the time. It's actually very rare, the first ones they used - it's a 4 cyl turbo. The most common Cop car of the time was the V3000, the same car with the 3 litre V6.

I kitted clutch master and slave cylinders.

And then onto this splitter

It's got this Nissan 1200 engine in there. It won't idle - the reasons are countless.

Yesterday I bought a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71. Today I replaced the radiator in said truck and changed the oil.

3.7 engine Assembly for police interceptor explorer. Ford engines are currently unavailable so rebuilding is only option. Used engine prices are out of control.

How hard was it? I can't imagine it is worse than what I put some of my LS powered stuff through.
