What are you working on today?

Mini piston soak "to see what would happen" & thermostat swap. The car would take awhile to warm up in the morning & over-cool on the freeway during long downhills. I didn't think much of it since it'd only happen on cold nights, but then I saw it happen on a 110° summer day. Also thought "it's just a dummy gauge, so not an issue," but noticed it running cool while using Torque app. 23yrs & 357k miles...$6.39 from Lexus 😂. Got my monies worth

Today not many customer cars so we done used cars and got them to the detailers so we can get them on the lot we are a little low on used cars so they wanted more. Done several batteries and many of them are the famous corroded Subaru batteries. Also my coworker left my new wire brush under the hood of one of them 🙁. That’s ok I know he will make it right as he did last time. You can’t buy the ones like I have individually so I told him just get me a larger wooden handle one like they sell at Walmart for under $2. He is known for leaving things under hoods lol he lost 4 pocket screwdrivers this week under hoods. Then for Monday I have a Subaru Ascent in the bay. Today I diagnosed it as a bad ABS module. Customer also asked for machining rotors and replacing pads all the way around so I’m going to knock that out as well.

Trees that fell. Split some wood I had on the ground. I have a hydraulic splitter, but I usually do some with the mall just to stay in shape.

Been working on my cabover to fix a lot of little annoyances that I’ve had over the years as well as some actual breakdown issues. Put in new thermostats and cleaned and repainted the thermostat housing the proper Alpine green color. Installed a new blower motor and speed control. Installed 3 new fan belts and a new alternator/AC compressor belt. Replaced a leaking tractor protection valve and a leaking quick release valve. Replaced both rear air bags and rear shocks, as well as an inversion valve that was leaking. I still have a lot of stuff to go but it’s getting there. All new stratoflex fuel lines are up next most likely and I want to install a Davco 382 fuel filter.

Started a fuel pump replacement on a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 this morning. It's the neighbors truck, and he loaned me his tractor to remove the bed. Won't have a pump until in the morning. This afternoon I drove up into the woods behind the house and drug a couple of downed trees down the hill to where I can cut them up and split the wood this spring and summer. Still have one more to retrieve. I cut them down last summer.

Finished the Silverado fuel pump. Also retrieved that last tree. My new to me Silverado went from clean Summit white to mud up to the windows real fast.

New struts, new sway bar links, 1 hour job turned into four days because Firestone zipped the passenger side strut on with an impact (had it replaced two days after purchasing because the bearing was bad, someone else must've done it). Bolt and nut threads were ruined, took a torch and mini sledge to get them off. Had to order a replacement from the dealer, no aftermarket availability. Broke my cheap Workpro cordless impact and bent my breaker bar. Even the massive corded Porter Cable struggled with them (a solid 450ft lbs of working torque).

Also flushed both front calipers, both had air and my brake pedal feels so much better, once again thanks Firestone, they were the last place to touch my front brakes.

Thursday I was out of town working on a deal to buy a couple of trucks to flip. Yesterday I replaced the master cylinder and brake booster on a 2000 Dodge Durango, and also replaced the wheel cylinders. Haven't gotten into anything today.

Changing the oil in my truck, the 2004 Camry and the Escape. Also putting up a new mailbox post and might get a new mailbox too or fix the old one. The lid come off of it. My neighbor who is making the mailbox post for us has a mailbox as well if we want it. I just hope I have enough tools for this task as I can’t use my mechanic stuff for it so will have to dig out the home repair tools. Also probably will go put the washer fluid tank and pump in my dads truck. It’s finally warm enough to do anything.

Float is back, sail installed. Next is rope for the railing and wire up for 120 to operate running lights and diving alarm.
I rewired most of the trailer today and installed a new lights and brake pig tail. All the lights and brakes work great now.
You can see the periscope folded down on top of it. It is up for parades and events.
Home stretch now, can't wait to get it done.

Saturday I cut and split a little bit of firewood. Sunday I sat around the house doing nothing. Today I replaced outer tie rods and a right front wheel hub on a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, then replaced spark plugs, plug boots, and air filter on a 2011 GMC Terrain. Also changed the oil in the Terrain.
