What are you working on today?

Did seasonal tire rotation from summers -> winters (on seperate rims) on my wife’s 2016 Mazda CX-5. She doesn’t drive it to much, 108K kms since new. Also changed oil (Kirkland 0W20 4.5L and OEM filter). Also did spark plugs, OEM NGKs from Rock Auto. Didn’t realise I needed a 3/8”/14mm spark plug socket, so had to whip out to Canadian Tire and buy the last one they had for $8.99 CAD. Worked perfectly. The old plugs looked pretty good in my opinion. View attachment 245085

My plugs look worse than that after 5000 miles.

Today I plan to re seal the top of the motor on my 06 Saturn Ion Redline.
I have a new valve cover gasket, cam end seals, and spark plug tube seals. Weather dependent though: if it's too windy, I'll postpone since I hate having the valve cover off with dust and leaves blowing all over the place....

Bunch of small stuff done today. Moved the RV so the BMW fit better, put a X on yhe driveway so I can line it up easier going forward. Brought up and listed the old winter bike for sale. Boys and I cleaned up the Focus and put it for sale. Got my dremel cutoffs yesterday so trimmed up the cargo carrier on the bike so I could put fenders on. Tried not to put any on but hit mud last week and made a bug mess, workers thought it was funny also 🙄

Got out a couple cans of Fluid Flim. Hit all the bolts and exposed surfaces I could on the BMW. Am I being cursed out in German for doing that? Also hit the Escape not sure why. The BMW has alot more plastic panels underneath. Removed a couple annoying stickers on it and cleaned couple strange spots. Wifi antenna and dash cam will be here next week, the dashcam is going to be a bear.

Installed a new stinger to hook to my RV. Just got done with a short road trip to test the new AX15 I just put in. 91Yj 290k. It has been off the road for quite some time, finally felt physically able to get it done.

Jump started the Fusion with the new AstroAI jump pack
Most adequate
If it couldn't start a 2.5 I4 on a 70° day I'd be surprised

That engine bay is clean! Looks good, like not freshly detailed and gets dirty the next day, but like, well cared for.

Our office has the day off but I went in to help with a thing. Then swung by a buddy’s house nearby because he took a caliper apart but it didn’t want to go back and four hands were needed. Received a celebratory C2 ride to Home Depot, bought some hooks, and then made a “hook beam” for my friend to hang up later.

I smell like non-catalyzed exhaust, spray paint and sawdust. Probably too much for today. I fell yesterday and the back is sore - no hotspots, but sore.

This morning I helped my boss replace the throttle cable on his 70 Corvette, then replaced an air intake hose on a 2014 Impala V6. After lunch I replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, upper plenum gaskets, and did an oil change on a 2015 Ford Edge. Finished out the day replacing bank 1 sensor 1 O2 sensor on a 2001 Silverado.

This is AC smell thing is getting old.

I pulled the blower motor out of the Lexus. The squirrel cage fan was covered with really fine, black dust. I gave it a sniff and it smelled of that oily smell. The fan is pressed on so I tried removing the dust with a chip brush. Not much success. I got a piece of sponge, wet it with Dawn, rinsed it out and shoved it in between each vane and scrubbed up and down.

After going over with chip brush. Few vanes showing success with sponge.

Half way thru, I thought of just purchasing a new fan. I came inside and looked at RA. No blower motor listed. Looked at NAPA; none there either. No aftermarket blower motors exist. I checked the dealer - $659.02 😲 Might be brushless? Back to work with the sponge.

"Pancake" blower motor. NO cheap alternatives.

After I finished with the sponge, the fan no longer smelled. Re-installed, sprayed the fan and whatever duct work that was exposed thru the cabin filter opening with the BG deodorant, and ran the system. I guess you get hyper-sensitive because you know what it smells like and there remains a faint twang. I sandwiched a Little Tree deodorizer between the cabin filter and its frame and buttoned everything up. air flow across the Little Tree is just strong enough to mask the imaginary smell. I'll just drive it and hopefully, the smell will eventually dissipate. I do have an ion generator I could try. 🤔

Visited the local junkyards to get some assorted body parts: rad support, fender, hood, bumper.

Thank God not everyone closes for this holiday. No matter what you call it now, it's THE dumbest excuse for banks and gov to say "we just want a random day off between Labor Day and Thanksgiving."

2005 Dodge Ram 1500
Replaced drive shaft

2014 Chevrolet Impala
Rotated tires, inspected brakes, changed oil

Went home early and slept the rest of the day. Wasn't feeling so great.

Smoked over a '00 Ram with "a noise" from brakes.

Here's the outside of RF rotor -- the shadowing may look like grooves but it's smooth to the touch

Changed the OEM coolant in my '19 QX60. Drained about 6.5 liters and added same amount of Turbo Power Asian Blue that is currently on sale at Princess Auto (Canada's Harbor Freight) for $14.99 for 3.78L. The Canadian company Recochem makes the Canadian Tire OEM line of coolants, STP brand coolants, so I figured it's good enough.

2009 Toyota Tacoma
Replaced front brake rotors and pads, replaced left front brake caliper, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes, rotated tires, changed oil

2015 Ford Taurus
Replaced cabin air filter, rotated tires, inspected brakes and changed oil

Got around to picking up the tools I had in buckets. These are the tools I used when I did the starter on the LS400, and more recently the odds and ends on the LS430. They're all back in the roll-away and there's no vacant spots. There was a lot of, "There's that xxxxx!" (enter tool name).

I need to find a storage solution for the Christmas tree. Off the floor would be ideal but the dang thing weighs a ton. Even if I put the individual sections in separate bin boxes, they don't make bins large enough for each section. I'm thinking of just putting the whole sha-bang-a-bang on a cable lift. Just thinking ahead. Probably won't happen until after the holidays.
