What are you working on today?

2002 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3 V8
Replaced front wheel hubs, spark plugs, plug wires, 2 coils, fuel filter, air filter and a heater hose connector I broke getting the wire of number 8 plug. Also changed the oil.
Those plug wires like to lock on to the plugs and never let go!!

I wanted to just add a little R-12 to my ‘92 Acura Vigor, but upon removing the gauge set the high-side valve core stuck partially open, so I had to recover the charge, change the valve core, then weigh it back in. When I finally finished there was a puddle of condensate under the car.

Oil & filter change, rotate tires, and flush brake fluid. 105F peak in the driveway. Took a long time to do.

Just about finished teardown of the ild Magnum. Required alternating heat, cooling spray, a puller and plenty of hammer. Aluminum hub on a steel axle, enough said.

The rotor is belled out, the bearings and tube seal are absolutely trashed. There is a snap ring for the innermost bearing that is rusted in. I have it half freed and one it's removed, I can find a way to knock out the races.

The diff bearings seem good. Some play but from what I gather, they are just ball bearings and I found no metal shavings or metallic hue in the gear oil. I might leave them be.

The intention was to do coolant hoses, getting all that rubber up to date.

However, I pulled it in the garage last night and the bottom is coated with oil. He did have a power steering pump hose failure he had to have a local mechanic in his college town change, but he’s also down a quart of engine oil after 1000 miles. He lost half a quart between here and Omaha, as he checked before he left. It dripped on my driveway in the 20 minutes it was parked there.

I‘ve already done the oil pump seal, timing belt, and valve cover gasket. So, this will be an interesting chase today. Where’s the leak????

This morning
2019 GMC Acadia with a 3.6 V6 replaced front brake pads, changed oil
2019 Toyota 4Runner 4.0 V6 changed oil
Taking rest of the day off

today I popped the diff cover off my Ram 3500, think has been making noise... so I flushed out the diff housing, and adjusted the backlash on the ring gear, stuck some new lube in there and what do you know, it quieted down.. now I need to fix the brakes...

A few days ago. 2013 Toyota Corolla - AC drain hose

Friend's new/used Corolla had a wet floor. The end of the drain hose was broken off and missing. Based on the extent of the wetness (the rear floor was wet) this has been going on for a while.

Shoved a 1/4" length of fuel line into the broken portion of the rubber bellow and routed it thru the floor/firewall so the AC could still be used until the replacement part arrives. Friend is driving daily to Davis for medical treatment; can't be without AC this time of year.

Tore down the rear diff on the Magnum. About as easy as it goes. It's O ringed and not a helical gear so no need to mess with pinion depth.

My online order was not working so I went to the local bearing and farm supply. Got all the bearings and seals in ten minutes.

Used copious amounts of antiseize and things went back together like butter. The back brake is still a bit knackered but at least usable.

I had to do something similar on a Massimo (Bennchee) SxS that was virtually new. The pinion flange bolts just pulled out of the aluminum case. Unlike your situation, quality control on these off-brand ATV's is horrendous.

Bennchee warrantied the parts but they came on the slow boat from China.

Nobody in our area will touch this junk for service, so I agreed to do it and Massimo did pay me. They told the customer "just find any shop who will repair it and we'll cover it."

He sold it the second I got it back together and bought a CF Moto ;)

Wallet flush at 123K on this tbing, including spark plugs and having to take off the EGR cooler. Not a pleasant job. A friend needs an oil change later on today. Trying to cram it in before tomorrow, I’m going out diving.

Excavation complete of the zeroscaping; it only took 3x my estimate and unearthed a bunch of rocks. Had a little dumb fun pulling a root with a "safety" chain. Moved the last of the crushed granite at the backyard fence gate/tire hoard/breaker box area. Taking a water break and will do cleanup, then its tilling time.

Almost 9 years later, it was time to go through the brakes. Carquest Platinum Professional pads and platinum painted rotors all the way around.
Also, last week one of the windshield sprayers broke, I’m surprised that one didn’t break before all this time. I ordered two because I knew the other one would snap as soon as I started messing with the water line. Sure enough, it did.
Cheers! 🍻
