What are you working on today?

I took the day off, and I'm going to bat at the local VW dealer for the neighbor kids 2021 Jetta
And the airbag recall they botched
...this car shouldn't have been returned in this condition
No loaners on site, and they got the appointment wrong so they weren't expecting me
Hopefully they get me a Lyft home, or I'll be on the bus 🚌

I think they got something wrong with the steering column, it's loose even when the adjuster is tightened
And even light force makes it move, real fun on bumpy roads
They broke the sunglass holder, so I can't see out the rearview
They left the wiper arm nut loose, and lost the trim cap
And a piece of dash trim fell off on the drive in
And the coolant level is fluctuating low 😳
...not impressed 🙄

The irony 😭
All this for $185 an hour labor rate ☠️

They subletted the welding to the gas station across the street
They summoned me a Lyft shuttle, who's driver tells me he picks up quite often from the VW dealer 😳
That really says it all
Glad the lease is up in a few months

4x Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires for the utility trailer mounted by Discount Tire today, have lots of miles planned ahead.

Took a look at the new Buddy 125 auction purchase. Oh dear. Not alot of oil. Put in half a quart of T4 15w40 and tried kick starting it. Lots of screeching noises, and lots of resistance. womp womp. I like "projects."

Good luck, have fun

Not really busy today. Done lots of PDI’s that our PDI techs are too lazy to complete on a Friday. It was a great day. Watched another customer throw a shine. This time she called the police though at her will. She was upset we would not give her a free battery since hers ran out of warranty 2 months ago. She pulled the R card on us and the cops. And threw a big scene. It was actually rather funny. The cop told her don’t even start that stuff cause he would not put up with it. She was served with trespassing papers and is banned from all of my companies property. She made lots of remarks that I can’t mention here. The cop is like why did you even call me for you are the one who is in the wrong here. So she made a different cop come as she would not accept papers from this cop for a reason we can’t say. She has been a problem customer for years just this time with her being asked to leave and then taking upon herself to call the cops backfired on her. Before she would leave she danced in front of the door and kept banging on it. People are crazy nowadays man. That made my day it was funny as heck. She wanted the cop to arrest all of us because we were all “crooks”. He said ma’am let me tell you this in a nice way you are the one who number one called 911 for a non emergency but claiming you had been robbed, 2 are causing a disturbance on private property and 3 are the one who can be arrested for refusing to leave so I suggest you get in your car and go.

The wife uses this little trailer to haul water for her garden. The tote wound up with its edges pretty far away from the (minimal) deck crossmembers, so the plywood deck was starting to really sag from the weight.

I added two crossmembers of 2" square tube and now it's bomber.

Also fabbed and welded on a spare tire carrier. I always love the DRO for drilling bolt patterns :D

Apparently I do appliance repair now 🤷‍♂️
The service contract she has took 4 days to send a guy, who didn't bring the belt we told him it needed
Then proceeded to tell us "can't get the belt on the Island"
I've got half a mind to kick these people to the curb 😒
Found a belt at Lowe's on the way home from work, $18.50 later
Lots of 1/4 inch machine screws, some of which have gone missing with repairmen over the past two decades
45 minutes or so and I can dry my clothes again 🥰

Wife and I wanted to go to get our A&W drive-in for dinner last night, and while the MG started right up, it became clear it was stuck on fast idle at about 2200 RPM. Pump the gas a few times, and still stuck. Tried pushing the throttle back to idle, and no go. Today I took the bi-metal off, and the fast idle cam works fine. Put the bi-metal back on, it started right up, and after a blip on throttle when it warmed up, it's back to normal idle. Got me, but since it's been a while I gave it an oil change. Top's down, and ready to try again. Beautiful day out 🚗

Been working on dads car all day. The thing is running so bad. It’s one code after another. Just cleaned the mass air flow sensor on it that helped a little bit then threw code for idle air temperature sensor. Which is built on the mass air flow sensor. Cleaned that off too. Guess next is cleaning the fuel injectors. The engine is misfiring and knocking but it’s not the bad engine knock. Really just wish he was in a spot to buy a new car. I wish I had a more in depth scan tool the one I have at home just tells me codes.

Replaced the drive belt and fuel filter on a 2007 Gator TS 4x2. My mom gets around her property and relies on it for everything. I will replace the transmission fluid in a few weeks through the breather hole with a extraction pump. I couldn't get the drain plug loose. The old belt was really cracked but held up great. Also confirmed the Kawasaki engine is a FE290 and found a blockoff plate where the oil filter normally would be. John Deer wants $75 for a housing. I ordered a used housing off Ebay for half price that was originally on a Golf Cart with the same engine. Just need the gasket and two matching bolts and this 1224 hour Kawasaki will no longer be lubricated with its own barf.

Bled my brakes with a new bottle of Motul RBF600 fluid. Checked pad thickness. Checked wheel hardware (stud kit). Checked suspension and chassis. Track Night this week. Front BBK pads basically at backing plate thickness up with a bit of taper forward to rear...this will be the last time on these before swapping for some fresh pads for my next track event. This event is close by and only 3x 20 min sessions so they will be ok.

Wrapping up my two week off from work with several quality-of-life work done on the 02 Silverado. Installed the proper OEM door speakers and added a tiny Pioneer powered subwoofer for improved sound. Replaced the anemic driver's side door window regulator with a new unit. Ordered a dash cover to cover up newly forming dash cracks. Found someone that 3D prints door armrest brackets for the front door panel to address the loose interior door grab handles.

Finally located the PCM on dads van. It needs to be replaced the capacitors inside are bad. We believe that to be the root cause of the majorly high idle it’s having. So we are ordering one on eBay and keeping this one. We don’t do the core return stuff.

Then changed brake pads on moms car. Front only. Dad too cheap to replace the rotors. They don’t look that bad but the car is a 2017 original brakes and the pins were frozen solid all the grease had dried up. I had to pry them out with a huge pry bar. It was making the pads wear unevenly. She had one at 4 one at 5 and two at 6. They don’t look that bad in the picture but they are. Went ahead and swapped them so I wouldn’t have to do it later or when it’s winter lol. Napa Silent Guard pads installed. I highly recommend them very good. We have had excellent luck with them at work. Now time to beg for some Chinese food lol. I planned on doing the brakes this morning but mom wanted me to wait till we got some errands done. Had she known dad was going to be in the bed till 12 she would of had me knock them out then.

I bought a new to me Ryobi 2 stroke trimmer and blower combo. Guy had it listed on Marketplace for $140. We settled on $90. Apparently it would only idle and no full throttle use. I dumped the old gas out and filled it with a mix of MMO and my E0 2 stroke mix I use in my blower and chainsaw. I ran it for a while until it started to smoke good. I let it sit overnight and I could sporadically do full throttle runs. I end up having to pop the carb off and clean it up with some carb cleaner. Now she screams at WOT!

Simple fix and a heck of a deal. New from HD is ~$300.

Just my $0.02
