What are you working on today?

Track prep for this weekend at VIRginia International Raceway for the Tidewater Sports Car Club Oak Tree Bowl HPDE. Trying these new EBC Bluestuff NDX I picked up from Urotuning (they just ship from EBC) out back...not much selection for the little 272x10mm solid rears. Fronts swapped. Wheel/tires swapped. Brakes bled. Vinyl applied (wife has a Cricut and makes the white window number decals).

At first I wondered why a race was named after high density polyethylene but upon closer inspection I'm lexdysic!

This morning
2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Replaced front brake pads and rotors, replaced rear brake pads, calipers and hoses, turned rear rotors, changed oil

Taking the rest of the day off

Shiny brass. New quick disconnect fittings for the service brake valve. Was losing pressure when holding the brakes along with rapidly losing pressure on the secondary side.
I aim for no more than 3 psi total air loss (according to the CDL brake test pre-trip procedure.)

Finally, the weather cooperated on a day off for me. Too bad it is a Friday which means I did this on 4 hours of sleep, but it is almost the only opportunity I had to do it before the wife and I set off for Charleston the first week of March for our anniversary.

Off and out are the factory suspension shackles and PLASTIC bushings. In went a Morryde CRE-3000 and upgraded wetbolt shackle kit.

Hardest thing is lifting the camper up, everything else went right in to place with some modified tools. I'm thankful to still be strong enough to manhandle things like the springs to get them back into place and line up the bolts. I can see how it would be difficult for some people and require some leverage.

4 Sumito tires on a 2020 Chevy Traverse. One of the bosses “company cars”

Oil change also

Out: whatever bulk Midas uses and a older WIX made Proselect filter.

In: Safety Kleen 5w30 blend DEXOS 1 GEN2 oil and a ProTune 22500 filter. Old oil had about 8,898 miles on it.

38,996 on vehicle. OLM was at 8% also.

Bob, nice work. what’s the difference you experience by doing this?

Nothing... It is a nice sunny day in Louisville KY today and will go for a long drive in my 2021 Honda HRV Sport.... :)

That could be a great drive, especially if it includes a stop at Mike Linnig's.
Good idea....they are open for the season...They have a lot of good car shows there also along with great seafood....

Haven't gone anywhere with it yet, but most people agree that it smooths the ride out from the trailer, not that it was bad before. Mainly I was after the upgraded shackles and wet bolts since the factory setup is straight up junk, I figured I'd throw the CRE3000 at it while I was in there since it is pretty much the same amount of work, and isn't overly expensive.

Surprisingly irritating at night
I replaced the glass in my '07 F150 for the same reason.

Not sure if there's a way to successfully polish glass that's clouded and streaked from years of rolling up/down in dirty and muddy conditions?

I will say that the OEM glass was 3/16" and aftermarket was 5/32", although it hasn't been a problem

I've heard Cerium Oxide can polish glass, but it's expensive, and I'm not skilled or equipped to do it
For something as common as the '07 F150, I would hope a good used OE Ford/Carlite piece could be obtained at a reasonable price

I got lucky on an OE Toyota piece for $58 delivered 🫰

Yeah I don't remember what I paid for aftermarket but even shipped to me via Amazon it struck me as very, very affordable. Might have been ~$40....but pre-global panic.

I also figured it was likely cheaper and easier to swap the glass than figure out how to polish it effectively
