What are you listening to right now?

A buddy of mine tried to get me onto the Doobie Bothers all thru the 1970s and I was completely not interested. Then around 1998 when they reformed and put out the album Cycles , I bought it and I was hooked. Since then wife and I have seen them in concert about 6-7 times and I now own every album they released on CD with the exception of One Step Closer. I cant get over how I ignored their music all thru the 70s when we were going to lots of shows and buying lots of music. Oh well. I like it all now.

I forgot all about this group...

Talk about a tight bass line. People laughed at that song, but musically it is quite good.

Oddly I had War LP's. I had the SuperFly sound track. We had some soul records and watched Soul Train. Pretty crazy for a mostly white kid in OC Cali in the the late 1960's, early 70's

I think this sums it up well....

We have seen nearly every 60s-70s era rock and roll greats thru the years. The list of those we missed would be way easier to come up with. Many of them we saw LIVE were so very talented that it seemed like some from of voo doo or a magic.

The absolute best BASS and DRUMMER duo I have ever seen and listened to has to be the pair in the Grand Funk Railroad band. Those two guys drove that music like a speeding run away freight train
. Grand Funk Railroad was led by the amazing lead guitarist / writer + singer Mark Farner. But the two that made it all move from the background was Drummer - Don Brewer and Bass - Mel Schacher.

Doobie Brothers " What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits" was my 1st D.B. album purchased in '76 . It's my favorite release by them .

No doubt. That is the album they were recording when Jeff Skunk Baxter joined up with the Doobies. They soon became the Doobie Brothers on steroid with his addition. One of my favorite albums by them too. The later album they made , when the original band reformed called Cycles is a very fine later one.
