Why is this relevant? Whether they work as claimed is not the issue. It's whether they work as the manufacturer of the transmission intended that matters. It's up to the fluid manufacturers to prove that.

..... And all of the angry users of Amsoil here on BITOG because their ATF made there tramsmissions grenade.

Whatever. Are we really back to this Whitewolf? So you are protecting people from what??? Claims that you believe are impossible, damage or just tall tales?

Not liking false advertising is completly understandable. But where are all the horror stories arising from Universal ATF's. And please dont use the "because they didnt tow or do anything taxing with the vehicle that would show the fluids shortcomings" because that's ridiculous.

Quite. After all what do all of those industry recognised experts and reviewers of SAE papers know? Evidently nothing!

I tend to think more like Gary on this one. I'd imagine they did plenty of testing before putting the product out. Otherwise, a fast buck would soon turn into their last buck. And why can't this type of fluid be the next era of ATFs? We do things with oil, grease and coolant that were once unthinkable. (Kendall once had the audacity to claim its oil could run for 2000 miles. 2000 miles?!? I'm sure more than a few people thought that was absurd.)

So where is the proof is my question? Anyone can make big claims! Have you seen their list of claims? It is quite ridiculous.

I don't understand this compulsion regarding "OEM approvals". Large reputable companies are recommending their products for specific applications. Why is that not acceptable? The new Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is essentially a universal ATF and is recommend for many applications yet it is not certified by the OEMs. Exxon/Mobil is the largest corporation in the world and has all the resources necessary to apply for OEM certification, yet they choose not to. Why? Because it's a waste of time and money. They base their recommendations on their own in-house testing and knowledge of lubricant formulations.

For what it's worth, the transmissions in 3 of my last 4 new vehicles required rebuilds/replacement. In each case nothing but the original OEM "certified" fluid was used. So what benefit was gained by sticking to OEM certified fluids? Nothing. I'm more confident now in using quality products from reputable companies like Exxon/Mobil and Amsoil and could care less if the OEM has certified it.
