I would also not want the stuff that gets on the filter to be spread around evenly on my seats, dash, etc.

I bought a replacement cabin filter for my S2000, took the old one out, put the new one in and washed the old one and let it dry then put it in the replacement Wix filter box. After 20k miles do the same thing all over again. I drive 95% of the time with the top down so all I need the filter to do is keep the larger stuff out.

meh I would be happy my vehical has a filter in the first place! imagine all that junk stuck to the evaporator/heater core

Good Grief, pulled the OEM out of my 04 Corolla and it looked worse than the one shown above. Lots of chopped up leaves. 07 Altima wasn't bad but I have new ones on the way.

my new truck only has 21,000 miles on it.

If it has one, that is a lot of miles on it. Normally I change mine yearly in the summer to get the pollen out.

Do you realize it is like any other A/C filter in that it cleans the air you breathe? My wife and daughter both have them and my car doesnt. my interior gets a lot more dust everywhere than theirs do.

Not necessarily.....it's a filter, and well....whatever happens to get trapped and pooled in there, basically turns into a Petri Dish :P

You'll have bugs, leaves, moisture, etc.....all in there....stuck, and breeding all sorts of crazy bacteria....

Now, fast forward 5-10 years.....on the same filter.....the dirt and debris keeps multiplying :P Now, if you're one to lease a vehicle, or not keep it for very long, sure, don't replace it

But us who keep our cars for life (or until the inevitable happens) it's a good maintenance item to change out regularly :P

Kinda curious though, the cabin filters are a relatively "new" feature, I believe they started in the mid to late 90s on vehicles.....I know my 88 Aries does not have a cabin filter for example :P

In a way, this almost sounds like an added expense that the car manufacturers add just to keep you coming back for yet another filter :P

I'm curious though, my car doesn't have a filter.....where does all that gunk that a filter would be trapping, go? lol....

BTW, anyone catch some of the latest adverts? I think I actually started hearing them this past year, a number of manufacturers (think Nissan, or Hyundai.....) contains "air scrubbers" which are supposed to purify the air......works similar to that of an "Ionic Breeze".....though I believe they still have cabin air filters as well, it's just another line of defense to "cleaner air" hehe.

Ordered one for my corolla and altima; corolla manual tells me where it is and how to install. CAn't find a word in the Altima manual about it.

Does anyone know? If not, I can stop off at Nissan dealer.

I guess I might care if I never drove with opeen windows...but since I usually have my windows open...I don't see the point.

I get what you're saying, but the purpose of a filter on the HVAC is to keep the coils clean, not necessarily the household air. There is no such purpose for a cabin filter.

Troll much?

TownCivilian: thanks for the info. Would never have guessed it required that much work to replace a filter. Its pretty much like the Toyota other than a lot more diff getting the dash pocket out and even more diff getting it back in. Was just hard to get centered and fit correctly.

Toyota had one screw; Nissan had two more than the six shown plus two additional ones and a couple wires to be disconnected.

A real PIA....I gave it up for another day when I had better light and more patience. Anybody need a new cabin air filter cheap?
