Wet Clutch and Schaeffers #132

Any ideas on the impact Schaeffers #132 will have on a wet clutch on dirt bike?

I know it is called Moly Lube but there doesn't appear to be alot of Moly in it ... especially if used at the rate of one ounce of #132 per quart of MC oil ... Mobil 1 10W40 to be exact.

here is what the schaffers site says:
#132 Moly E.P. Viscosity Improver

1 pt. to 5 qts. oil. Fortified extreme pressure, friction modifier and oil consumption improving additive.

i'll bet your manual says to NOT use an oil that is EC rated, correct? and what you are wanting to put in does just what the "Energy Conserving" label means. so,...................

Heavy clutch springs would fix the problem if your clutch starts to slip. I"ve ran mobil 1 with friction modifiers in my 400ex in the past, which has a wet clutch. I have heavy duty clutch springs and it never slipped one time. I never ran it with the stock springs so I can't say that an oil with friction modifiers caused a problem.

Where did you see "#132 Moly E.P. Viscosity Improver" on the Schaeffer's site? When I just looked the product data sheet calls it Moly E.P. Oil Treatment. However, viscosity improver may well be a better name.

Sunruh - I think that the viscosity impact #132 has on any oil it was added to at recommended levels would offset any benefits of Energy Conservation it might provide ... but thanks for your opinion.

I have a case of #132 in my garage and I will try it at the rate of 1oz per quart as I mentioned above ... with additives "a little goes a long way"

Jared,

I have it in my bike currently and have no problem with it. If you look up what it means to have the Energy Conserving rating, you'll understand that is a poor measure to gauge whether or not you should use that product.

Just as an update ... I have had no issues to date with clutch slippage while using at the 1oz per quart ratio.

At 1oz per qt I don't think you'd be over the 200ppm (debateable) guideline. Unless the oil your pouring into use alot of moly.

Also, as a side note, the fact that many riders are using Redline oil in their motorcycles successfully does not support the theoretical 200ppm limit.
