I have a wen two stroke generator , it has lots of compression , will only start full choke run 3 to 5 seconds and stalls out , after several of these failed starts it will start a few times without choke. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these. Units.

I have had several generators I used on the road for electric skillets, hvac units, coffee pots and so on. I would stay away from 2 stroke units. 800 watts is not much. For overall power, get 2200 watts to 3000 watts, 4 cycle unit if you can.

Wen stuff is not so good, but Im sure someone has one that works perfect, but I would not have one. Harbor Frieght or Northern tools runs 22oo watt gens for 299 and sometimes for 199 and it is really worth it.imho

First off is the 2-stroke oil settling? Do you give it a good shake before you start it up?

Are you running the chinese spark plug that came with it? Cross it to a copper autolite or NGK.

Like eljefino hit on, #1 cause of problems would be fuel quality issues. Are you 100% sure the fuel (fuel/oil mix) is fresh?

2) would be the wonderful bubble gum spark plug that comes from the factory with these. Be careful around the spark plug boot & ignition wire because these can be brittle/weak Chinese quality plastic and rubber.

2-stroke isn't a bad thing for something around 1000 watts. They're spinning slowly for a 2-stroke so fuel consumption and noise is low. You can't beat these little babies for under $100 brand-new.

The plug is a cheap one. It's brand is ygy and the number is f6tc. I would like to ask if anyone has a good way of cross-ref, if so please see what a cross-ref? Also i have a blue harborfreight genny that has bad rod bearing, the wen unit is identical. I plan to drain fuel, mix up klotz Castro bean with premium no ethanol pure 93octane gasoline (50:1).
Thanks,
Ken

I do not have a 2 cycle, but can see that if one used a 2 cycle generator in the winter or rain, there would be the advantage of not having to change the oil every so many hours of use. In the winter or on a stormy day that can be a welcome advantage.

Assuming it's still not running, check the crank seals, particularly the one between the engine and generator (you should be able to see it through the ventilation slots.) I have had two of these generators fail when the entire seal is pushed out of place and just hangs on the shaft. One was low hours and still under warranty, the replacement had a lot of hours, then a couple of years of storage before the seal problem. As commonly observed, China still doesn't have the soft parts working too well.
