Yep, first fender bender for my beloved truck. First time I ever ran into anything while driving period, the only other collision I was in I was t-boned by a lady (that's using the term loosely btw) who drove out of a parking lot into the side of my old tercel while cruising down a city street.
Was making a tight turn, close to the edge of a parking lot, really slow, hit a real slippery spot, black ice. I was still turning the wheel left yet the vehicle stopped tightening it's turn and crunch. Into the lamp post with the front passenger corner. I can't believe how crunched things are considering the crawl speed I was going, maybe 5 kph? Definitely no more than ten. KM/h not MPH. The corner of the hood is bent down, the pass. headlight assembly is destroyed, the bumper is cracked and I'm pretty darn sure the fender is beyond repair.
The most puzzling part of all this is that the DRIVER's side mirror shattered during the impact. The pass. side mirror is fine, and neither mirror was touched.
The truck drives just fine but that lack of driver side mirror makes busy freeway driving pretty dangerous. Thankfully I live close to work and can avoid the freeways at rush hour.
Sorted some stuff out at the bank today so I can pay for repairs, going to get it looked at and fixed ASAP.
Will start with the dealer and see what they're charging, I'd rather they did it with all OEM parts I'm crossing my fingers that it's reasonable, I just want to get this fixed ASAP and fixed perfectly, Obviously I'm going to have to drive around and get a few quotes to compare, but whoever does it I know I'll be paying for a side mirror, headlight assy, bumper, getting the hood straightened out and some paint, plus labor and a rental car.
I guess I'm just not meant to have savings *sigh*
On a positive note at least the air bags didn't go off, there are 4 and I can only imagine what expense that would add to all of this.
Sorry just had to rant, and anyone have any idea what a repair like this would cost? Any advice for me? If I can borrow a dig. cam I'll put up pics but I don't have one of my own.
