Hello everyone, I bought a new Honda cb750 Hornet in Germany. Honda only releases 10W30 with API SJ or higher and JASO MA for the machine. To get the 6 year warranty, I have to do the services at a Honda dealer. However, they almost exclusively want to fill the Pro Honda 10W30 oil and do not accept any oil brought with them. What would you recommend?

Attached I link a fresh oil analysis of the current Honda 10W30 oil in Europe.

A 6 year warranty on a motorcycle? Did you pay extra for an extended warranty?

That Honda 10W-30 looks fine. It has a fair bit of ZDDP, which I think is good for motorcycles.

We have here since May two years warranty after the new purchase and with each further inspection carried out at the Honda dealer this is extended to a maximum of the sixth year after new registration without mileage limitation. Yes ZDDP and without Molybdenum I like it quite well, but to choose mineral oil as a base oil may not be the best quality or?

Well, I'm sure there are plenty of opinions. But if you have to use the specific oil the dealer uses to keep your extended warranty in effect with them, I don't think you have much choice.

I personally would use Motul 300V 4T 10w40, or 15w50. But where I live can get much hotter than Germany, and our streetbikes are all high-powered Sportbikes.

We don't get the Hornet 750 (at least I don't believe so) in the USA. It would be cool to see some pics of it.

Does anyone have a recommendation? No one has any idea?

My recommendation to all my customers is that any major brand 30 grade synthetic whether MC or Auto will meet and exceed your mileage expectations... my idea is to offer a side by side comparison to help you make a informed choice...

The Hornet 750 has been available for a couple years now, outside the USA, and it's coming to America for next year. Again, the Honda oil is fine. No need to overthink.

My suggestion, start doing your own maintenance if you can or find a reputable motorcycle mechanic, preferably one that specializes in older, carbureted bikes. These guys know their stuff. Then use whatever oil you like.

The chances of the dealer screwing something up during routine maintenance work are far greater than any actual engine problems. In other words, that extra warranty is not worth the hassle, especially since there are restrictions right from the beginning.

Perhaps if this was a Ducati or some other more exotic motorcycle, but not worth for a run of the mill Honda bike.

That's going to be a nice bike for you! I'm sure you will enjoy it.

With the six year warranty and required dealer services, they will not change it more frequently than manufacturers specifications. That's how they make their money on the warranty and by purchasing it you have put money in their pockets and limited yourself to their rules.

According to what I have found recommended oci is every 7,500 miles/12,000 km or once a year. First and foremost, I would never run oil 12,000 km in a motorcycle engine. The warranty and required dealer service is restrictive when it comes to what is best for the engine overall. You are concerned about moly and I would be more worried about the length of the oil change.

OP, you have been very adamant about no moly in the oil, as witnessed by your posts in another thread. Do not worry about moly in a JASO MA/2 motorcycle oil. It goes without saying it would not be there if it caused a problem.

Hundreds of thousands if not millions of individual motorcycles with much more horsepower and torque than a Hornet 750 have run oil with moly in it since the day they were new.

True... according to million of users Mileage not Moly is the chief reason our clutch begin to loose grip...

Yes, you are right, the oil change interval is 12000 kilometres or one year, whichever comes first. The interval always depends on what you do with the motorcycle and how you drive it. I know someone with a Honda machine who has almost 600000 kilometres on it and says that a service before 20000 kilometres is a waste of time and money, everyone as he thinks, but the machine runs great. On the subject of Moly, that was actually related to certain engines from bmw, because it is explicitly stated in some instructions. At Honda, only the specifications are listed (API SJ or higher and JASO MA), but it is pointed out that no additional additivisation is allowed under the warranty. Since I never do this anyway because I think absolutely nothing of it, it doesn't matter to me. Thank you very much, I am very satisfied with my bike so far.
