Good afternoon,

One of the sites that I visit regularly is looking for journalists with a technology background in things like cell phones, laptops, and even with automotive experience. They want someone with fluent English skills and based in the USA. Now according to the website (notebookCheck) all communication is done through Discord. I've never used it, and was under the impression that there were other options that were better. They claim that they are based in Germany. I received an email from one of the writers but it was from an aol account. I know that not every publication has their own email but most do. Is this spam?

I see companies that have website domains yet still use gmail.com, yahoo.com, aol.com for their email. I always find it very unprofessional and question their tech knowledge.... If you own a website domain, adding email only requires a few add'l clicks at the host's dashboard and paying a few dollars a month more.

In your case, it can't be a coincidence that you applied to this place and rec'd a follow-up email from someone that works there though.

I just responded to the email that I received. According to the editor some employees have official email but not all do. It sounds like they have writers from many different countries. It also sounds like discord has a free option.

Additionally I wastold that many people do have an official email but others choose to use their personal email.

All communication done through discord? I don't have discord and never will but I hear it's a cesspool of a platform and because of that I can't at all see any partially legitimate place using that for any communication let alone "all communication" So i think it's some type of scam. I'd just run away.
