Not to be AH but why are you edging with a string trimmer? That’s what edgers are for…. Did i miss something? Lol

If the string keeps breaking off at the eyelets, that means you're forcing the string to bend too much.
Raise the trimmer head up so that only the tips of the string make contact with the concrete.
When I'm edging, I bump the head three times in a row to give me plenty of sting for edging and I pull the head way up away to keep the string as straight as I can. Anymore questions? I do this stuff all day everyday.

I use a Stihl FS90 with a FixedCut. I've been using the same precut (by me, off a spool) lengths of 0.090 string for months, having only replaced them once this entire mowing season. I think your problem is you.
Every mowing crew here edges with a string trimmer, that’s not the issue.
And they don't particularly care how much string they are using. Anytime the string hits something other than grass it is going to wear quickly.

I know a majority of people do, but it doesn’t mean it’s how it is supposed to be done lol. An edger is made for this and wears thru much less material. Investing in an edger is well worth it to avoid the cost and frustration of edging with the improper tool. As someone who’s done it with a string trimmer for decades, I still can admit an edger is easier, more reliable and the proper tool for the job.
The amount of string you use to edge is practically free if you buy a big roll. This is all assuming you know what you are doing, and I think that’s the issue here. I mowed yards for 6 years as a kid/teen and mowed my own for years. Sure if you don’t edge it every now it’s going to use more string but I cut weekly and the edges got touched up each time. I could edge as fast as I could walk.
The guys that let the grass grow for weeks or only edge it twice a season? Yeah, the edger makes sense.
I like power equipment but buying another piece for something I can do with a string trimmer doesn’t make sense to me. I pay a lawn service now and still have a 52” walk behind, 3 riders, a Honda HRX, a trimmer, a backpack blower, a handheld blower, a battery powered smaller blower, a backpack mosquito fogger, a pole saw and a chain saw.
OP needs to slow down the string speed and have a bit more finesse and I bet that fixes the problem.

I have an edger attachment that connects to my string trimmer. 30 second swap. This is the way.
I have used a string trimmer for edging for decades now. Never an issue.
In the last 14 or so years they were always WORX brand. Perfect for the standard size community home property of 80 x 100 or so.
First one failed around the 7ish year mark current one still going strong must be around 8 years. Two lithium battery packs but one was left over from the last edger.
Since then I see they have a new model replacing it and now has wheels. Anyway, I always edged my lawn with it and it works perfect, actually amazing.
I would NOT recommend this to do heavy weed whacking work. It edges your lawn great and also great at cutting or trimming grass where you can't get it with the lawn mower. It is not made for whacking larger overgrown weeds.
Also with this model was a time that you get FREE Replacement spools for life and to this day, actually a month ago. I still order them and they are free but you do have to pay $8 or $9 shipping and handling... They send out about 6 spools at a time.
I have something like the $99 one in the link WG163.8 though mine doesnt have wheels, al the new ones do. I see that model still includes "free spools for life program" For $20 more at $119 you can get it with two batteries.
